Jack, I saw my first Senators game in 1951 when I was 12 yrs old in Griffith
Stadium against the Yankees
and Joe D.--I can not remember any real hatred just envy, which for some may
have been hate, What made the rivalry fun and perhaps distorted was the
Broadway play,"Damn Yankees" and Joe Hardy selling out to the devil to win the
pennant from yhe Yanks. The attitude that prevailed through the original team
was hope and despair then hope and finally despair. The only hatred I remember
was directed toward the Griffith family and especially Calvin, much like the
current estrangement with Skins fans and Daniel Snyder--The second team had only
one to hate...Bob Short. Hating the Yankees, no, I think it was more envy than
anything else.--Arch--------
