Re: [The Washington Senators] Re: Help! Living Senators from '44, '45 or '47

Art and Emmett,

I have an incredible book entitled " The Washington Senators 1901 - 1971
written by Tom Deveaux. In the section 1940 - 1949, it explains what was going
on with the team at that time and mentions Rick Farrell. It says the Senators "
lived near the bottom during 1947, nestling into 7th place in May and staying
there" It goes on to explain "The truth was that the Washington ballclub was
getting old " 42 year - old Rick Farrell, who hadn't played in two years, came
out of retirement to lend a hand."
It sounds like Mr. Farrell hung up his spikes and retired for the 1945 and
'46 season. I hope this helps.

Thanks Art.

We were trying to contact folks who may have remembered Rick Ferrell as
teammates. Rick many people believe was the finest knuckleball catcher in
baseball history.

Why he skipped the Sens in '46 is a mystery. Anybody know?

to know who is still with us.

... Bill, Thanks so much for the additional information! I realize that the rigors of being a catcher would be especially tough on someone at the 40+ age mark....
