I have no clue as to why Rick Ferrell did not play in 1946. (Maybe he was
worn out from chasing too many knuckleballs that got away? ;-)
However, trying to answer your question I was doing a Google search and found a
book titled "The Ferrell Brothers of Baseball" by Dick Thompson. You can find it
on the Amazon website. I was unaware of the existence of this book until I
stumbled across it this morning.
