Re: [The Washington Senators] Mike McCormick

McCormick developed arm trouble in his first go-round with the Giants and was
considered washed up. He resurrected his career with the Senators. In short, he
became a pitcher rather than a thrower.

Subject: [The Washington Senators] Mike McCormick

Wondering if anybody has any memories, personal or otherwise, re: the
above?

If you look at his leaderboard stats, he had only negatives with the
Senators, yet came back in '67 with the Giants to be "all everything"
and win the Cy.

Giants traded him away to the Orioles in a terrible deal if you are
a Giants fan, but then got him back from the Senators "for a song"
((pace, Cap Peterson and Bob Priddy fans.)

I find it also weird that he leads the NL in ERA in 1960 ... yet
by '62, the Giants don't even bother to put him in the WS. I cant
find a good bio online to figure out if he was injured or not.

Wikipedia says: In 1956 he became one of the most hyped rookies in
history after posting a 49-4 American Legion record at age 17,
including four no hitters and a 26 strikeout game.

Interesting character ... but not much on him.
