Chris, I just came upon this writeup at another baseball website
discussing "Ballpark Disasters".

Washington, September 29, 1943 A wild throw into the stands killed a
spectator at the Washington - Cleveland game in Griffith Stadium last
night. The victim, Clarence Stagemyer 32, Alexandria, VA, died of head
injuries, hospital attendants said. Stagemyer was sitting behind first
base when he was hit by the wild throw, indended for the Senators first
baseman. He died shortly after removal to the hospital.

Thrown by Sherry Robertson.
