In the event anyone is interested, I attended a game between the
Camden (NJ) Riversharks and the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs on
Sunday, May 18th. (Camden won, 4-3. Starting pitcher for the Blue
Crabs was John Halama who'd spent time with the Washington Nationals.)
As I'd mentioned in a previous post, Dick Such, a pitcher for the
1970 Senators, is a coach for the Camden team. I managed to meet Mr.
Such after the game and he kindly autographed his 1970 card for me.
(Posted in the photo section.)
I asked Mr. Such what he remembered about his days in Washington. He
mentioned Opening Day in 1970, (The Senators lost to the Detroit
Tigers 5-0.) playing for Ted Williams and alongside Frank Howard. Our
conversation was short as the Camden team was boarding the bus,
headed for a series with the Long Island Ducks, but it was nice to
meet him and reminisce about the Senaors, albiet rather briefly.
If anyone is interested, Camden will make 2 more trips to Southern
Maryland (Waldorf) this season on July 3-6 and again in August, 29th-
31st. I was pleasantly surprised by the stadium in Waldorf, it is a
very nice facility. Should anyone be interested in venturing down
this way, the Blue Crabs website is:
