I am certainly not opposed to a stadium agreement. I am very much in favor of
the "new" Nationals and National league baseball in DC. What I am opposed to is
the way MLB has handled this situation to their own self-serving ways. You are
pointing your finger at the DC Council. I am pointing my fist at MLB. Arch

Tim, All of the points you make are valid. However, if we had had support from
MLB from the get-go, this would have been a done deal and the Nationals would
have been active participants in the free agency market, as well as other
trades. MLB should take the major responsibility for this current mess, but you
know what? They won't because Angelos and all of his cronies are enjoying every
minute of our twisting in the wind. They have since the day Calvin Griffith took
my beloved Senators to Minnesota and they have been pissed ever since that time
because Congress stepped and forced them to have an expansion team placed here.
And why did they leave second time..? The 2.7 million tickets sold and the
tremendous sales of Nats "stuff" has done little to move this group of owners to
support Washington, DC and those who think differently are only kidding
themselves. You have every right to be angry at the DC Council, but the real
villians are the MLB owners who continue in private to laugh us as we create
civil war in the Nationa Capital. It is exactly what they hoped for...revenge!!
With the exception of Tom Boswell, who in the media has even pointed a finger at
the ownership? People tear up Selig, but he is nothing more than a puppet for
that group, which more than likely is providing financial support for the
Brewers to keep his family afloat. Someday there may be Godfather 3 made that
exposes MLB for what it really is... Arch Webster

If you oppose the stadium agreement, you are de facto opposing the continued
existence of the Nationals in Washington. There is no way around that. You are
also sending the message that Washington, DC can't be counted on to keep its
commitments.
The important thing to remember is that the District will draw in money from
this ballpark. But that money for schools, libraries, hospitals, and police is
not available unless the ballpark draws it in.
70 percent of the last year's attendance at RFK came from outside DC. Most of
the money is outside money coming into DC that otherwise wouldn't, and when the
neighborhood develops with restaurants and shops and the like, the effect will
be even more pronounced. Suburbanites will ultimately pay off this stadium.
This is effectively the commuter tax that Congress won't let you have.
