OK, I'm prepared to be ridiculed for this, but in my book, the best
baseball movie of all time -- and it has a strong Senators angle -- is
"Little Big League.'' The character played by Jason Robards is
supposed to be Calvin Griffith, owner of The Twins. He talks fondly
about how he had a chance to see Walter Johnson pitch, but missed it.
Everything in this movie is on the money, and it has Ken Griifey Jr.,
Randy Johnson, Lou Pinella (who was in spring training in '63 with the
Nats!) and many other big leaguers playing themselves. Best part: the
kid manager tellling off free agent pitcher McGreevy how he wouldn't be
worth anything unless he performed better. Second: "Don't you think
there'd a problem when you cheer that hard for a seeing-eye single.''
If you think this is a just a kids' movie, I urge you to go out and get
(the soundtrack is good, too.).
