Y'all have a nice and safe Holiday Season and a HAPPY NEW YEAR.
2005 is gonna bring some serious HEAT. I'm lookin' for Asafa to
take over the 100m, at least from a fan's point of view, that's who
I will be pullin' for since my favorite ATHLETE of all time has
called it a career.
looks like we're both showin' our age...i went to UT...with dave morton...ran

come from third to first, and he wasn't very far behind, either.
Hayes also won the l00 meters by two/tenths, the largest margin of
victory in history.

Sounds like you would have a lot to bring to the table. The best
thing to do for now is to post a date and time you would like to
hold a chat and wait for people to respond that they will be there.
Depending on when it is, I may be able to stop in....Give us a few
days notice at least. Until then, go ahead and drop some topics. I
am more familiar with the Athletes of today but am always ready to
learn about athletes of the past. As you have noticed, Ato Boldon
has been my favorite athlete for the past decade. I am slowly
begining to embrace Asafa as his heir apparent. On the female side,
the future is BRIGHT. Monique, Tonique and Sanya lead the way for
me....along with Lalova and Lauryn. Gotta love Alyson, too...
Man, I'm glad SOMEONE appreciated my OG LIST. LaTasha is drop dead
gorgeous..... but there is something about Mohini that has me
singin' the hook on that Lil Flip feat. Lea song....
I feel you on every one of them yo.Especially on La Tasha!!!!

one- does it work, why is there never a group in chat throwin'
around times/splits-up n comers-the future of american sprinting-
american trained athletes etc. does any one have copies of bob
hayes' 8.4 split in tokyo? i have the audio for johnson's 19.32 and
43.49 runs. mainly does anyone ever 'chat'/BS other than this
posting and everybody else recieves an email?
I agree ... As a matter of fact I'm not too big of "conversions"
period ... While they are made from a solid Physics based model ...
The model assumes an inanimate, non changing object moving perfectly
linearly through space ... A human being is none of those things ...
A sprinter is constantly changing position during the race ... He (or
she) has side to side movement as well as forward movement ... And it
is not consistent from athlete to athlete ... Nor is it consistent
within the same athlete from race to race ...
The model also cannot account for changes in acceleration in the race
in question ... Nor can it account for how the acceleration pattern
may or may not be altered based upon the change in wind ... It also
does not take into account how the individual reacts (and changes
form, acceleration, etc) based upon who is in the race and/or how the
race shapes up ... For example if the individual got our well he may
have relazed more than if he had a poor start relative to the others
in the race ... This could effect everything from drive phase to foot
strike to how soon or late the individual changes his center of
gravity during the course of the race ...
I could go on, but my basic point is that these "calculators" look at
the race as if it is in a vacuum and does not take into account a
whole host of variables that have a direct effect on how the race is
going to end and therefore the final time ...
Just my own point of view mind you ... ;-)

That game was just a matter of being out slugged. It was an
offensive slugfest and they couldn't hang. My boy VINNY was
prolific! They just gotta keep giving him time and he'll pick em
apart! He threw some nice passes. Key made some nice grabs. Lee
might me the guy....but I'm leaning toward Julius Jones. George can
act as mentor. I am not worried. Minnesota always comes with their
A GAME against the BOYS, especially 84. I can see Dallas having a
very balanced attack by the time this season shapes up....They'll
bounce back....THE TUNA won't have it any other way.
howdy from the dfw area, the nations hotbed for developing young
talent...as for the dallas football game...the story was
this...Dallas has an OFFENSIVE LINE FROM HELL, these boys can
play...our recieving corp is fine..our defense is fine...everything
is fine, except for the pressure put on the secondary, which is not
fine (for dallas). further, i believe that the big tuna is ate up
with himself in public. one must remember this is a man that has no
comparable attributes to even the lowest man on the practice squad,-
that has been regulated authority over grown men that are at the top
of their profession. parcells is a good coach. wether he becomes a
great coach depends on the dallas cowboys ability to perform.
parcells has nothing to do with performance other than instruction.
great coach's are rare, further, most great coach's performed at
high level in their chosen sport...parcells did not...i can give
examples of great coach's that performed well when they were
participants....clyde hart track coach of 2 fine sprinters just from
the dfw area, jeremy wariner & michael johnson...the past 2 coach's
of TCU(sprint
U.)..john willaims @UCLA..john wooden was amember of an NCAA
championship basketball
team as a player...vince lombardi was a member of the 7 blocks of
stone in college..landry was all nfl as a player with the
\NYGiants...i say let the boy's play...and make sure the coach's
take care of them..not themselves
OK Cowboys fans ... What the heck happened to the offense ??? I
thought we had two new running backs this year (well one old one new
but both new to us) ??? Tell me this was just opening day jitters or
somethin !!!

Yeah, Gatlin was pooped ... Frankly I don't think he ever recovered
from winning the 100 ... I think he lost a lot of sleep and partied a
bit and never recovered fully ... He was definitely breaking down in
the final ... And never really had the oomph through the rounds that
he showed in the Trials ... And he knew he had a medal at that point
... And its easy to relax when you know you have it locked up ... Or
think you do ... I don't think he ever saw BErnard til the last minute
...
Sort of like John Carlos in '68 ... He too should have had the silver,
but eased up at the finish cause he figured Smith was his only
competition and never saw Peter Norman rushing up ...
Doug, Thanks for finally deciding to post after a couple of years.
Asafa didn't seem to take the 200m seriously at the Olympics.
Supposedly, his coach pulled him siting a hamstring injury....but I
also think it had to do with the bad lane draw. Asafa was also
pulled from the relay. Whether it was mental or physical is
definitely up in the air.
As far as Felix, she is definitely one to watch in the 200m in the
future.
Finally, I don't think Gatlin eased up on purpose. I think he just
ran out of gas. If you look closer, you'll see that his form was
breaking down a little. I don't think he'd give up the silver to
Bernard.
peace!

Hello to all,
First time poster, been a member for a couple of years checking in
on training tips and suggestions.
The question about Asafa is, after reviewing the tapes of the
Olympics he seemed to be out of sorts running the 200m. In one
prelim round he was shutting down , then speeding up while glancing
over at least 4 times at the other runners, what was up with that?
Also what happen in the 200 final, why did he miss it?
I was reading through the post but did not see anyone addressing
this.
Was he thrown off by his 5th place finish in the 100?
I agree with the person who stated he'll be one to watch because I
honestly expected him to take the 100 with his early round
performances. But his overall performance raise a flag about his
mental makeup, his talent is a given but does he have the mentality
and the heart to dominate, being a quiet humble person.
Not to ramble but did anyone notice in the 200 final how it appeared
that Gatlin eased up and seem to let Williams get the silver. I am
from B-more and was happy he got silver but reviewing the tapes it
looks obvious.
Overall I thought the track and field was great and had some
outstanding performances especially the M 100 final and the M 400
final, I still can't stop watching those. I also have become a big
fan of Allyson Felix , of the person and the athlete and look
forward to great things from her in the future.
Peace,
Doug
Guess what I just saw over at HSI? A Congratulations to my Aussie
Boy, John Steffensen from HSI for his silver medal in the 4x400 relay.
He and Maurice Greene flew the flag for HSI in Athens. Who would have
thought. Check the hairsyle in the Athletes section of the HSI site.
Talk about the "Hair Bear Bunch" LOLOL.
Needless to say - tears of joy and pride from AG!
Asafa, and here's why....
CONSISTENCY. He has shown me that he can be consistent. That was
the Maurice Greene trademark. No, he didn't get it done at the
Olympics....that's okay. Just one race, albiet the biggest of the
year. When Maurice was Asafa's age, he was on the outside looking
in...so Asafa is ahead of the game.
Gat's OG victory can be compared to that of Donovan Bailey. No one
really expected it to be him. Let's be real, we were ALL talkin'
Mo/Asafa and MAYBE Crawford. NO ONE was talkin' Gatlin. Like
Bailey, Gatlin got his A$$ handed to him often this year and wasn't
consistent. He does have the youth factor in his favor, though.
Next year, I see Asafa coming thru in the circuit, like he did this
year. I just think he will establish his dominance there and begin
chipping away at Gat's confidence. By the time WC's come around,
Gat will have ALL EYES ON HIM....we'll see how he reacts to being
the "favorite", unless Asafa dominates the circuit so severely that
HE comes in the favorite.
I am not undermining Gat's ability to rise to the occasion like he
did at NCAA's and now at the OG's....he still didn't WIN at the
Trials. However, unless he shows me something more consistent, he
draws comparison's to DB (which ain't bad!) more so than the
G.O.A.T.. I don't think Donovan was considered "Dominant".
And finally, just look at Asafa. He is STRONG, POWERFUL and has a
long stride. If he stays healthy, he's gonna be a freakin BEAST.
Sure there's a case for Gat and Shawn....also, as I said, Mo ain't
goin' out without a fight.....but I think Asafa has just as good a
chance as any of these guys to emerge as the NEW ERA OF THE 100m.
Over on Sub10 folks are takin sides on who is going to dominate the
100 - Asafa or Gatlin ... Personally I say no one is going to dominate
...
Gatlin only won one race this year, and Asafa dominated on the circuit
while most were preparing for the Games, yet did not do what he needed
at the Games ...
More importantly, I think Mo, Crawford and others will have much to
say about any domination going on ... And the pressure will be on Gat
to win Worlds next year (just like Collins had pressure on him this
year) ... And Asafa will have the dual pressure of trying to maintain
dominance on the circuit AND win Worlds ... Meanwhile, Mo will have a
full strong season under his belt; Crawford will surely improve his
start; and who knows who else will improve ...
Do ya'll see a dominant sprinter out there in the next few years, and
if so - WHO ???
Not in any particular order....
1. Tonique Darling- mos def the total package!!
2. LaTasha Colander- maybe the most beautiful person I've ever seen
on a track.
3. Ivet Lalova- dang, do girls really look like THAT in Bulgaria??!!
That 10.77 is legit to me! Did you here that Ivet?
4. Catalina Ponor (Romanian Gymnast)- caught my attention every time
she performed. And her routines were pretty good, too.
5. Monique Henderson- do I really have to explain?
6. Aleen Bailey- um, can you say badonka donk!
7. Sanya Richards- something about her....also, see Aleen Bailey
8. Christine Arron- what else needs to be said?
9. Logan Tom- can you please switch to BEACH volleyball???
10. Mohini Bhardwaj (USA Gymnast) - had me completely SMITTEN. Her
face is like SUNSHINE.
Lemme see eye candy @ the Olympics..I say Tonique Darling is the
truth.....Very pretty....veery thick wit her 5'3" frame! Ass so phat
u can see it from the front! LOL (no disrespect though)
