Ato is in Monte Carlo, Monaco, one race away from what will most
certainly be the end of season 2002. The mind is willing, but the
body is not able, as the saying goes, or so we think. Quite simply,
after 7 straight seasons of 100m and 200m sprinting, 27 "sub tens", 4
Olympic medals, a World title, a Commonwealth title, same day
doubling at 100m and 200m, and having one of the top 3 times in the
100m every single year, Ato simply needs a break, and that's exactly
what he'll do. Take one. You'll hear folks talk about retirement,
being washed up, etc etc. Don't believe a word. Ato is one the best
to ever do it, and was born to do it. When he leaves this sport, in
which he is already a hall of famer, it will be on a high, and on his
terms, not struggling to run well.
