Okay, how about - the Wobegons?   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #2635 of 3028 |
Recently, I talked here about one of the names considered for the
Minnesota NBA team when it came to be in the late 80s.

Killer Carp was the name, and, thank you all, it didn't make it.

But another name that also didn't make it is on my mind.

The name is - brace yourself - the Wobegons.

That's right, friends, the Minnesota Wobegons!

I take it that name was suggested by either an NBA fan in Minnesota
who also enjoys the great Saturday Night Public Radio tradition that
is "A Prarie Home Companion", or, possibly, a resident of 'The little
town that time forgot and the decades cannot improve', Lake Wobegon,
Minnesota.

I have been thinking about that name for quite some time, and I
wonder what would have been the logo for the team - say, Garrison
Keillor in a basketball uniform, balancing a spinning basketball on a
fingertip?

Now that logo I would have loved to have seen!

Hope to hear from you real soon.
