From what I understand, when Minnesota got the NBA for the first time
in a myriad of years, there was a contest held to determine the name
of the new team.

One of the names suggested was, get this, the "Killer Carp"!

The Minnesota Killer Carp!

Much as the great outdoors are an influence in Minnesota, I would
hate to picture the team logo and mascot if that name had been
selected.

Thank the Risen Lord we're the Timberwolves!

Years later, we did have an Arena Football team named the Fighting
Pike, coached by Canadian Football legend Ray Jauch.

But still, the Killer Carp?

Ah, well, Uff Da!
