Well I was home at christmas for ten days and I
didnt even get to see the Rovers play just the bottom
of a pint pot. Thank God I didnt waite and see what
has become of my beloved Rovers, I am coming to
believe that we will never be consitantly one of the top
team in Ireland (never mind the plans I had for world
domination).
Public Meeting<br><br>The Sligo Rovers Supporters
Club, Sligo Town Branch will be holding a
public<br>meeting next Thursday (14th Dec.) in the Residents lounge
of the Silver Swan<br>hotel, Sligo. Kick-off is at
8:00pm and the meeting has two
main<br>objectives.<br><br>1. It is a chance for new members to enroll and meet
the committee as well<br>as other members. It is an
opportunity to find out, first hand, what the<br>club is all
about and make any comments, suggestions, you might
have.<br><br>2. The meeting will also oficially launch the
Supporters club sponsored<br>walk. The walk takes place on
the 30th of December and is being backed by<br>Tommy
Marren of North West Radio as well as the Lord Mayor of
Sligo. The<br>idea is that four groups of supporters
will set out on the walk from<br>different locations
north, south east and west of the town and converge
on<br>the Town hall where they will be met by he Lord
Mayor. Entertainment will<br>be provided at he end of
the walk in the form of live music and we ope
it<br>will be a fun day out over the holidays. Sponsorship
cards can be obtained<br>from any committee
member.<br><br>We look forward to seeing you all there,
Looks like Wesley is going to get an early chance
to stuff Tommy Cassidy for the way he was treated
here......if ex-rovers players are anything to go by he'll
probably score a hat-trick against us........isn't it
amazing how his form has turned around 200% since joining
Bray......might have something to do with Pat Devlin not slagging
him off every two minutes.....Tommy Cassidy is still
a wanker! Any chance of Harry McLoughlin togging
out again....i hear Cassidy is discussing terms with
him....he's only 45!!!!

Hi guys, i know u probably think that its really
strange me joining ur club and im not even sure that u
want a girl here, so if u dont please tell me! But,
next year it looks like i'll be moving from Wales to
Sligo and i love football so i thought i had best get
supporting the local team, so thats why i have come on here,
to get some practice in b4 i move!! Is that ok with
everyone?<br>Btw-my name is Sian, so hi to everyone!
i cant believe rovers got rid of wesley charles, i know he's been playing shite
but he was not given a proper chance. what r they going to do for cover in the
defence when somone gets injured now?
so the agm is on in a couple of weeks. i hope
everyone makes the effort to go. it will the decide the
future of the club. instead of complaining in the bars ,
leaving messages in this forum voice ur opinion to the
people who need to hear it. spread the word of the agm
as well ,tell all the fans who would of went to see
rovers bring home the fai cup in 1994. where are they
now?
Hi,<br><br>I heard that Sligo Rovers are about to release six players before the
end of the week<br><br>Is this true ?????<br><br>Also heard something about
local investors<br><br>Is this true ????
So Rovers are in trouble again both on and off
the field. <br><br>It seems Rovers have always had a
close relationship with financial trouble. It's not the
first time for them and its not going to be the
last.<br><br>For years now it seems Rovers have lived on a lets
plan for today and worry about tommorrow when it comes
type of policy.<br><br>They have failed to come up
with safeguards to ensure some type of financial
stability. It seems that we've been raving on for years
about financial crisises..we have...and still rovers
fail to learn a lesson from each financial episode
they get involved in.<br><br>If it costs so much to
run the club then why do they pay high wages to
"professional" players who havent earned their shirt. I'm sure
their is enough non - pro players out there willingly
to do the job. If they really have to have
professional players then why dont they put them on a pay per
play contract. I'm sure this would ensure their
availaiblity to play and play well instead of having
"injuries" for so long and draining finances while they dont
play.<br><br>Rovers can have a bright future. But its all about
proper planning and about doing things "right". I know
its hard for the people involved in the club at the
moment but its only hard by their failure to implement a
contingency plan. What's that ?. Plan's cost money i hear you
cry. Maybe..then again maybe not. <br><br>How much
does it cost to scour sligo's local leagues, including
mayo and even leitrim. I saw a player playing for
Longford last night on t.v..forget his name..but he was a
great young player..he was signed from Castlebar Celtic
in Mayo.<br><br>Ok so Rovers have delved into
mayo...i think they have a couple of players on the books
from there.<br><br>Could rovers set up teams to play
in sligo leitrim youth leagues. I think this has
been done before and i know the costs involved but
surely it must be worth it. If they worked closely with
the Sligo Letrim Commitee they might get somewhere. If
they had the best local talent playing each year from
u-12 to u-18 in their repective leagues then they
could keep tabs on local talent, improve local
talent, and instill club loyalty into such talent at an early
age. Maybe they could merge a couple of youth teams
together to play under their name and use the coaching
staff involved with such teams. Pick the best league
players in each age group and work from
there.<br><br><br>I dont know..but surley soemthing can be done.
Whats going on
???????????????<br><br><br>Yesterday Rovers once again suceeded in blowing a
lead in
unbelievable style.<br><br>The rovers have gone from a team
challenging for promotion to a team who find it hard to
string one pass together.<br><br>I know rovers have
players injured/suspended but should they not have a
squad to be able to cope with such events. Of course
they should but they dont. Combined failures in
attracting new players and keeping good existing ones have
provided rovers with a skeleton squad.<br><br>I could go
on and on about problems but having a weak team was
not the reason they lost to waterford yesterday. They
made too many stupid mistakes and waterford made
rovers pay the ultimate price. You can blame who you
like but i would question the form of the keeper. Ok,
it wasnt his fault that charles sliced a standard
clearance to give the waterford striker an early xmas
present but surely his must be in question for the
others. His positioning for the goals conceded should have
been alot better and for waterfords third he came
racing into no mansland and then failed to get the ball
with his diving lunge.<br><br>He made costly mistakes
against Dundalk too when it seemed rovers would get
something after getting the lead with 23 mins
left.<br><br>I'd also like to comment on the attitude of certain
rovers fans at the waterford game. Even before the game
was over i.e at 0-0 1-0 1-1 and 1-2 some rovers
supporters were getting very annoyed at the team. Rovers
strung about 10 complete passes around the pitch in one
move..albeit the ball ended up back with the rovers keeper
before been released to marshall to spring an
attack...this disgusted some supporters for some reason and
they shouted get the ball forward blah blah...rovers
had completed an excellent exhibition of passing and
all the crowd could do was cheer. They should have
encourage such early passing movements. Such movements do
wonders for a players confidence. Making the players
nervous wont help.<br><br>One particular supporter must
have had a bee up his backside becuase he criticised
everything that went on and taunted the manager for the
whole game.<br><br>I too was disillusioned by their
display but people must understand that these things
happen to teams. I know that it is very frustrating to
see rovers play crap and not getting value for money.
Hopefully this run will end against drogheda..who by the
way are back on a kind of form.
Sorry to say this but the Irish aint gonna win
the league!!!!<br><br>the final game will be
Australia v's New Zealand.<br><br>And if the Irish do get
to the last game the will be playing either the
Aussies of the Kiwi's<br><br>seeya later alligators

Sorry for replying to my own message but

Crisis-stricken Rovers warn of 'drastic steps'<br>> <br>>
by: Leo Gray<br>> <br>> For the second time in
a month crisis-ravaged Sligo Rovers have sent out
distress signals warning that they will be forced to take
drastic steps within weeks if there isn't an immediate
response from the public.<br>> <br><br>I have to say
that I am getting very fed up of Rovers constant
attempts to shift the blame for their problems onto the
"public". For "public" read supporters. Why is it that we
never hear phrases like "business plan", "strategy",
"maximisation of resources", "leadership", "accountability",
"credibility" and "AGM" from the ubiquitous Mr. Michael Leyden
????? Maybe, just maybe the supporters have no
confidence in our great leaders !!!<br><br>> With weekly
losses topping £4,000 and an ever escalating debt adding
to their financial worries the club, in a grim
message to supporters, has said it simply cannot continue
with its current policy for much longer.<br>>
<br><br>Well I'm glad to see that the club has opened a line
of communication with the supporters because in the
past this hasn't happened. And that's sarcasm, in case
you missed it. <br><br>> "We are talking about
weeks rather than months before drastic action will be
necessary". warned club PRO Mr. Michael Leyden.<br>>
<br>> Although the club is reluctant to specify the
cost cutting measures under consideration, it is
understood that some players could be asked to take a cut in
wages while others could be put up for sale.<br><br>Is
it too much to expect some honesty in the middle of
this subliminal message. What is the extent of the
problem (yes we all know we have a problem), what exactly
is the club planning to do about it and when can we
expect a two way debate on the direction the club should
take ??<br><br>> <br>> "We hope it won't come to
that but the situation is very serious and we simply
can't continue to endure the level of losses we are
experiencing at present". said Mr Leyden<br>> <br>>
Rovers plight was emphasised yet again last Sunday when
the gate receipts for their clash with St. Francis at
the Showgrounds ammounted to just £1,000. A small
number of committee members had to dip into their own
pockets to make up a shortfall of over £4,000 to pay
players wages.<br>> <br><br>I'm sorry if I sound
ungrateful but this is no way to run a football club
!!<br><br>> In a last ditch bid to avert a downgrading of the
club <br><br>Now what the hell does that mean ??? The
cynic in me thinks that we are being downgraded to
bankrupt !!<br><br>Rovers have launched a series of
fund-raising initiatives including a new 300 club which seeks
to attract subscriptions of £10, £15 and £30 a month
from supporters. Subscribers will be entered in a
monthly draw for top prizes.<br>> <br><br>So what we
are being offered in the form of a solution is an
extension of the very "hand to mouth" policy which see's us
in this position !!! Imaginative and resourceful.
<br><br>> Other fund raising ventures planned for the
coming weeks include a race night, a supporters dance, a
massive bingo session and a sponsored walk.<br><br>This
is all very fine and noble in the short term. And I
have given my backing to some of this but what we are
crying out for a long term business plan. Rather than
whinging to the Champion about lack of support I would
like to hear what Mr. Leyden is doing about that ??,
the business plan that is !!<br><br>Slan,<br>Jim
