i agree with ya all the way..... swoops is good
but very jelous.... i think she is scared that her
time has come ... you give holdsclaw a few years and
swoops wont be able to keep up let alone stop her.
I have posted my opinions on the Mystics game vs.
Sting and then New York...<br><br>Will try to keep up
with the Mystics games... and yes PHOTOS! in the
works. Have Photos against the Sting developing. Will
post them as soon as they come back (pending they are
ok).<br><br>Also today there will be an open practice hopefully
can get a pic or two and who knows! maybe
autographs...<br><br><a

I read the coments that Swoopes made about
Holdsclaw and I found them to be cheap shoots. I feel that
Swoopes is a good player with a big mouth and wants the
spotlight. She was playa hating her own team mate Cooper,
she need to play ball and let her action speak on the
court and learn to shout her mouth makes you wonder why
she is getting a divorce, could it be that her
husband was on camera more than she was? it not Holdsclaw
fault that she have the media hype. I really dont like
Swoopes from last year when she came back and started the
bad blood between her and Cooper and now she is
starting the season with the same smack. The Mystics beat
them before and they can do it again.
Last night, the Mystics finally decided to run
their offense and play some defense. And they mangaged
to blow out a pretty good team on the
road.<br><br>The team ain't quite championship material just yet,
but it does have enough talent to be competitive
every night if everyone plays with some intensity and
emotion.<br><br>Anyone read the comments and saw the interview of
Swoopes re: Holdsclaw. Ya think there's any jealousy
there?? I do hope that the Mystics get up for the
Houston's visit a week from Friday! We gatta get some
revenge for the embarrassing loss we got in front of the
world!!
It was good to see the Mystics win a game. First
road win in franchise history!! Tonight was the first
time they played team defense and offense. <br><br>I
believe one of the keys to the Mystics is getting more
shots for Enis. There hasn't been a game where she's
got at least 10 attempts. She has game facing the
basket and in the post. Hopefully, Coach Darsch will
work her more into the offense.
i feel that the mystics are going to have to come
together as a team and quit being indivuals. lets face it
holdsclaw and mcCray are the best on the team but there can
not be competion between them nicki is going to have
to let go of being the leader and feed to holdsclaw.
i think some of the players are afraid and are
jelous of holdsclaw, they need to get over it and trust
her she will lead them. she also needs more support
from her team. they also need to run an offence and
not just shoot the ball it is like they are afraid
they wont get the ball again and they shoot it. they
need to play better defense. until they come together
as a team they will not be a threat to any team. i
was so disappointed by all of their performances
against houston...
I like the way that the roster's looking. My concerns are the depth at point,
but all in all, we seem to have a solid team.<br><br>I can't wait for tonight.
Should be a blast!!<br><br>MJ

WASHINGTON -- A few years ago, professional
women's basketball routinely was played in front of a few
scattered fans and thousands of empty seats. <br><br>The
sport has come a long way fast. On Thursday night, the
WNBA's Washington Mystics expect to draw a sellout crowd
of more than 20,000 for their season opener against
the Charlotte Sting -- and will be disappointed if
they don't. <br><br>"Our hearts will be going 'thump,
thump,' " said center Shalonda Enis, who thought 3,000
was a good turnout when she was playing the last 2½
years for the ABL's Seattle Reign. <br><br>It's easy to
say the throngs are coming out to see No. 1 overall
draft pick Chamique Holdsclaw make the most anticipated
pro debut in women's basketball history, but the
Mystics would probably have filled the MCI Center even if
they didn't have the so-called female Michael Jordan.
<br><br>Last year, despite a 3-27 record, the team averaged
15,910 fans and had two sellouts of 20,674 -- the
largest crowds ever to watch a women's pro basketball
game in the United States. The WNBA, only three years
old, is healthy enough to make plans for four
expansion teams next season. <br><br>For coach Nancy
Darsch, it's the arrival of the big time happening before
her eyes. <br><br>"I think the potential was there,"
Darsch said. "We've seen it in the college game at many
different programs around the country. We saw in Atlanta in
1996 at the Olympics. <br><br>"But I think there
certainly still was some question as to who's going to come
to the MCI Center in July. Who's going to go to
Madison Square Garden in July? The fans have certainly
answered that with an exclamation point."
<br><br><br>Guard Rhonda Blades, playing with her third WNBA team
in three years, realizes she arrived at just the
right time. <br><br>"I don't really consider myself a
pioneer, but I've been in this league since the
beginning," Blades said. "It's wonderful not only for women's
basketball, but for women's sports and women in general.
<br><br>"It's become the thing to do. You've got people like
Chamique that come out and put their stamp on women's
basketball. She appeals to a different crowd than even
Rebecca Lobo did." <br><br>Considering the hype
surrounding her, Holdsclaw has kept an even keel during the
Mystics camp. The two-time player of the year from
Tennessee realizes her game may be notch above the rest,
but she's also tried to play down the expectations.
<br><br>Asked to say something about herself during the Mystics
luncheon on Tuesday, Holdsclaw stood and said: "I'm from
Tennessee. I'm a rookie." <br><br>Wednesday, Jun. 9 3:02pm

Do not know if many of you know that Heidi Burge
has been waived from The Mystics.<br><br>On 16 June
1999 from 5-6:00 p.m. there will be an open practice.
I think tickets are needed for this event. I got
mine yesterday in the mail.<br><br>Will keep you
posted or you can go to:

the winner(s) are good (Replica Jersey, T-shirt,
etc.)
It's crunch time at Training Camp!!<br><br>The
roster will be cut down to 11 in the next couple of
days. Who'll make the cut? These are my
eleven:<br><br>1) Holdsclaw (just barely missing the ax!)<br>2)
McCray (another one on the bubble)<br>3) Santos De
Oliveira<br>4) Enis<br>5) Nagy<br>6) Whittle<br>7) Page<br>8)
Maxwell<br>9) Williams<br>10)Burge<br>11)Aldridge<br><br>What
are your thoughts?<br><br>Was anyone at the open
practice yesterday? I thought it was pretty cool. Turnout
was pretty decent.
Is anyone going out to see the Mystics game is
Utah?? Heidi Burge is supossed to give me tickets so I
am going to go out there. I have this good feeling
that they are going to kick some Utah butt. How bout
them beatin Houston last night!! The Mystics are
awesome this year. Guess that is the fans reward for
sitting through all those defeats last year!
Here, here!!<br><br>Listening to the game, I
could sense that the team was passing well - sometimes
passing too much! But it's a "good" problem to have. What
is the projected record for the team this year?I'm
going with 17-15. What does everyone think?
I was very pleased to read about the victory of
the Mystics over the defending champions, Comets. I
was even more pleased to read on how well Nikki &
Chamique are playing together. They both have the
potential to become the greatest duo in the WNBA. McCray
scored 24 points & Holdsclaw scored 20, 10 rebounds and
6 ASISTS. <br><br>Down the stretch, Holdsclaw drove
to the basket and found McCray in the left corner
and instead of taking matters into her own hands, she
dished out to McCray who scored a crucial 3 pointer.
That is what wins games, and defintely
championships.<br><br>I am so proud of my Washington Mystics. I feel this
will be a good year for us compared to the 3-27 record
of last year.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Chamique Holdsclaw and Nikki
McCray teamed up for the perfect homecoming Thursday.
Holdsclaw, bidding farewell to Tennessee basketball fans,
had 20 points, 10 rebounds and six assists in the
Washington Mystics' 68-64 victory over the Houston Comets in
a WNBA exhibition. McCray, a former Lady Vol,
scored the go-ahead basket with three seconds left and
added two free throws with one second remaining. The
game, held in conjunction with the opening of the
Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in Knoxville, drew 9,279.
Holdsclaw, who led Tennessee to three national
championships, received a rousing ovation when introduced. She
didn't disappoint her fans, leading a late first-half
run with two 3-pointers and a 12-foot jumper to keep
the Mystics within 31-29 at halftime. Holdsclaw added
10 second-half points, including a crucial 3-pointer
and a follow shot in the closing minute. The two-time
defending champion Comets were led by Sheryl Swoopes, who
scored 30 points.
I think we are in for a heck of a year.
Holdsclaw, and McCray what a team. Everyone thought that
Houston would take a third straight title, not me I think
maybe a nice challenge from our Mystics. Go Mystics...
I listened to the game tonight!!<br><br>The
Mystics ran off the final eight points of the game to
defeat the Houston Comets 68-84. MyCray hit the game
winner with just under four seconds to go! She finished
the game with 24 points. Holdsclaw ended up with 21
points.<br><br>Mystics Highlights: The team was again solid on the
boards. I don't have the numbers, but I'm sure that they
out-rebounded the Comets by a substantial amount. Santos de
Oliveira had a solid game and controlled the defenfive
boards.<br><br>Mystics Lowlights: Not much production from the second
unit. Can't get any offense or solid defense from the
lot. Play from the point wasn't overly impressive
either.<br><br>NONETHELESS, the team showed heart and a desire to win. I'm
happy that the coaching staff is letting the starters
end the game and going after the wins. Winning the
games in the pre-season should boost the confidence of
the teams when the league starts.
The WNBA is setting up an audio-pass for the
regular season that allows you to listen in on broadcasts
of all WNBA games during the entire season and
playoffs. The cost is $8<br><br>BUT, they will have a free
game every week. AND they plan to kick things off with
the Houston-Washington pre-season game this Thursday
evening and NO COST.<br><br>Check it out!!
I think that she has the capabilities of being
the best player right from the get-go. She's one of
those players who can contribute so much without
touching the basketball.<br><br>I think that she'll
average a double-double this season (points and
rebounds).
Holdsclaw is awesome, and I hope she holds it
down with the Mystics. I think that the Mystics will
definetly have a winning season this year. <br><br>If you

I, along with the rest of the most loyal fans the
WNBA has ever seen, sat through the horrible Mystics
season last year. This year however will be different.
With the addition of Holdsclaw we are defintely on our
way. I predict that we will at least win 20 games if
not more (one can hope). I watched the pre-season
game and was very pleased with what I saw, especially
since the team had only practised together for about a
week. <br><br>I plan to be at every game cheering our
girls on. I hope they can count on your support as
well.
We didn't get to see Enis play in the pre-season
game, but I watched her play in college and followed
her career in the ABL. She will surprise a lot of
folks and will be an All-Star as well.<br><br>My
concern for the Mystics is their point guard strength.
Nagy looks good, but after that, there ain't much help
from the bench. It will be hard for the second team to
execute.<br><br>Looking forward to a great season!!
Yep, the season should be great! I think the
team'll go at least 18-14 in the regular season and
should have an outside chance to make the playoffs! Nagy
looked pretty good in the pre-season game and Holdsclaw
was pretty solid.<br><br>Go Mystics!!
This site is for Mystics Fans, the absolute best

Mystic's record be? Can they make the playoffs? How will
Holdsclaw, Enis, Nagy and Whittle do? What were your
impressions of the pre-season game? Who'll make the final
cut?
