I think this is a good move. We had a Log jam at the 4 position
(Mique, Melvin, Jones, Smith, and even Murriel). As bad as Jones
played half the eyar, I'm surprised we got so much for her. Now we
have a PG that can not only direct the offense, but can shoot, and a
center, although Melvin is reluctant to play the 5. My guess is that
Melvin will start at 5 and back up Mique at 4. Sanford (who is
playing very well in Korea) will back Melvin at 5.
On the PG front, I think this means the end for Burgess (with her
cute self). Right now she's the oldest player on the team. TJ is
in. Kiesha is taller, quicker, and better defender, and an better
shooter ans lslasher than Burgess. I think we're looking pretty
good, and so far have not made any bone-head moves.
We don't need any free agents. Our problems is what to do with the
extra weight we have. There's still three rounds of draft, we've got
Luz and ZZ to deal with. Here's my ideal lineups (assuming we draft
Beard). First listed name is the starter:
Jackson/Brown
Coco/Beard/SDS
Beard/Page/SDS
Mique/Melvin/Smith
Melvin/Sanford/Smith
With Burgess, Luz, Penn and ZZ, that's 14 (and there's still the 2nd
and 3rd round draft picks). The Mystics ended the season with 12. I
would not be surprised if they go with only an 11 person roster.
With salary caps, teams don't have the luxury of keeping 2 players on
IR. Pen may be the only keeper from this bunch.
