Washington Mystics Senior Vice President of Business and Basketball
Operations Judy Holland Burton announced today that Linda Hargrove
has been named an Assistant Coach for the Mystics. One of the most
knowledgeable coaches in the game of basketball, Hargrove joins Head
Coach Michael Adams on the Mystics staff after spending the 2003
season as a scout for Washington.

"Linda will be a tremendous asset to my staff," said Adams. "She has
a great basketball mind with knowledge of both the professional and
the collegiate game."

Prior to joining the Mystics scouting staff, Hargrove was the Head
Coach/General Manager of the WNBA's Portland Fire for three seasons
(2000-2002). Before the team folded in 2002, she led the Fire to a 16-
16 record in its last season. In 1997, Hargrove served a brief stint
with the Long Beach Stingrays of the American Basketball League where
she was responsible for drafting elite players such as Yolanda
Griffith, currently with the Sacramento Monarchs.

Prior to her professional experience, Hargrove spent 26 years at the
collegiate level. She started her career as a Head Coach at Cowley
County Community College in Kansas where she compiled a 316-112
record in 17 years and produced four All-Americans. In 1989, Hargrove
was named Head Coach at Wichita State and led the team to its first
Missouri Valley Conference Championship in 1997. Hargrove guided the
team to six consecutive post-season MVC post-season tournaments.

Hargrove has also coached at the international level. She was an
Assistant Coach for both the 1990 U.S. Senior National Team and the
1992 Bronze medal winning U.S. Olympic team.

Hargrove graduated in 1975 from Southwestern College in Kansas and
received a master's degree in education in 1985 from Wichita State.
Since 1992, Hargrove has been a member of the Southwestern College
Athletic Hall of Fame and was inducted to the National Junior College
Athletic Association Hall of Fame in 2000.
