As a 63yr old male who has had season tickets since the second
Mystics season I am outraged at even the possibility of no season
which in reality will be the end of the WNBA...
I was uninformed of the real money issues until I read a recent paper
citing some of the problems..here are some:league offered 3% raise of
veteran minimum salary from $40,000 to $41,200...reduce rookie salary
from $30,000 to $25,000...allow unrestricted free agency for 10yr
veteran...no brainer here as the league hasn't been in existence
10yrs and by the time it is how many players will still be in it??
2 people designated franchise players..pro football has only one, why
2 for the WNBA? and the NBA has no franchise player designation...
These are league demands...now the players want: raise for veterans
from $40,000 to $48,000 and rookies $30,000 to $33,000...shame on
someone asking athletes to take a paycut and that puny raise of $1200.
i know the league is strapped but veterans wanting an $8,000 raise
and rookies $3,000 being a problem???????
NBA players throw away $3,000 in sneakers a month........
If the WNBA went up on tickets say $1.00 on all tickets I would
gladly go along with it, it would just mean one less beer at arena
which is already in the $6 range...
Go to an NBA game and see how people spend for concessions at those
outrageous prices..those same prices are charged for WNBA games.....
I don't expect the owners to take a financial loss but you can't ask
women to take a pay cut when you wouldn't dare ask the men
to...that's just plain wrong...the men would strike and sit out the
season in a heartbeat...
I would hate to see the WNBA fold but if those women stay in school
and get their degree, they can easily make the $25,000 or even
$30,000 starting salary they are asked to endure....so I say to the
women don't degrade yourself accepting less than those figures
mentioned above...I will suffer not hearing the crowds at games for
the Mysstics and miss seeing some of the athletes but life does go on
as we will all see down the line....
The men should be so lucky to go through these hoops for money...It
truly is a man's world and I'm one man not too happy about that
fact...
From SEC. 200...Row E...seat #1.....
