rod...All Yankee fans hate Griffey, it's part of
being a Yankee fan. Griffey has made the Yankees out to
be the worst organization ever, which is totally
false. I'll admit that Steinbrenner was the biggest jerk
back then, but Griffey Sr. didn't get screwed, the
Yanks really didn't need him when they got rid of him,
and Griffey Jr. couldn't deal with the fact that he
wasn't treated like a prince there, none of the other
kids got any privileges into the Yankee clubhouse so I
don't understand why Griffey was so upset about it, no
one else could go in either, a rule's a rule. Sure,
the rules have changed, but that's just the way
things were run in the Yankee clubhouse during that
time. Give me Bernie Williams anyday, he's got
something that Griffey doesn't and probably never will
have: two rings.

As far as MVP goes, sure
injuries happen, who would've thought ARod would be
sidelined with his injury. But we're just speculating the
fact that Jeter and Ramirez stand the best chance of
getting the award. Also Sandy, you mentioned that you
thought that who got into the World Series would be a
factor. All awards such as the MVP and Cy Young are
selected before the postseason begins so that postseason
performances in no way affect the voting for a strictly
regular season award.
have to realize that George Steinbrenner was a
psyhcopathic tyrant in the 1980's. Even Yogi Berra and Billy
Martin felt his wrath. But those days are over now. And
U know something, I'll take Bernie anyday over
Junior!!!!!
think Clemens on the DL will be a plus for him
and the Yankees. Maybe this injury was his problem
the first month. Not only that, I know a guy like Joe
Torre will shape Clemens up. He's a better pitcher than
what he showed.
here can be no discussion about baseball that
does not include the Negro Leagues. Hank Aaron and
Willie Mayes were both in the Negro Leagues. Visit the
Negro Leagues Museum at their web site
www.negroleaguesmuseum.com and gather insight into a part of baseball
history that is often forgotten.
orgetting ..1) it's only the first month and 2)
injuries!! How can you pick the MVP this early in the
season. What's to say Jeter doesn't get hurt and is out
for the rest of the season. Will he win it then..NO!
Plus to the guy who hates Griffey I totally understand
why Griffey said it and support him! They treated him
and his dad like shit. I don't blame him for not
playing for a team like that!
Kelly
wanted an explanation, U GOT IT!! I think U may
remember that he bashed the Yankees to the media last
season, talking 'bout how he'd never play for them. That
comment really hurt. I have been a Yankee fan since birth
(May 1, 1978), it's bad enough fans have to bash the
Yankees, but players too???!!! This is why I hope he never
wins a World Series.
agree with you too. I haven't seen Derek play
much since I'm in the Ohio area, but I have seen Manny
play a lot. He's looking really well this year
all-around. He's doing good in the field and most definitely
at the plate. I just read an article at ESPN.com
that says if he keeps up at his current pace, he could
have the same stats as last year.....in August! I
think what it will come down to in the end is which
team makes it to the World Series. And if it's between
these two guys, that WILL be the determining factor.
HATE THE BASTARD!!!! I hate Griffey with all my heart, but he'll probably do
it. But I hope he never wins a championship (no offense Mariner fans, I don't
want him to win one, not the M's)
just read that Ken Griffey needs to hit 41 home
runs for the next ten years, counting this one, to
break Hank Aaron's record. Do you all think he can do
it? Hank Aaron believes Griffey is the only player
today who can.
agree about the MVP and Cy Young, I was not
even aware that pitchers could win the MVP until I
read it earlier today in a book. That makes no sense
whatsoever. The MVP should be exclusively for batters. But
isn't there a new Hank Aaron award for batters? Maybe
that will balance it out.
definitely think it will come down to those
two, I think that the fact that Derek is on the Yanks
helps more though, DJ came in 3rd last year in the
balloting and there are other players who had better stats,
Derek's just doing it with the Yanks and that makes it
all better. DJ is the Yanks' MVP, they have no one to
replace him at all, so if you're the best team in
baseball's MVP, why not be the league MVP?! (OK, so it's
faulty logic but who cares :))
hat's what the Cy Young is for, not the MVP. I'm
totally against pitchers winning the MVP award, it's not
fair, they have their own award exclusively for
pitching, why take the award away from a player who had an
excellent season as well when the pitcher receiving the MVP
undoubtedly won the Cy Young in the same season. Perhaps I'm
a little bitter as a Mattingly fan, he got robbed
in '86 when Clemens won both the Cy and the MVP.
As for Jeter, I think that he's the top contender,
as I said earlier. People say he doesn't have the
RBI production that ARod or Nomar have, but those
guys are on crappier offensive teams. If Jeter was on
a crappy team he'd be the third or fourth batter
and he'd have the same numbers that those guys have.
His job is to get on base, be a table setter for
O'Neill, Williams, Martinez and Davis. He's not supposed
to be driving in runs like Nomar and ARod, but if he
was in the same lineups that they're in you better
believe that he'd be driving in just as many runs if not
more.
ey, I think that any single player in the MLB,
ANY one, will look like a hero when compared to
Rodman. Also, I think that, like Jeter, EVERY player does
what he does for fun. And, not to be mean to Jeter,
not many other players take in being a celebrity, so
I dont think its special that he doesnt either.
Dont get me wrong, he's a great player, but all of the
statements you made in that last message i found a LITTLE
sugar-coated. Bye.
bviously, u can tell I like Jeter. But I don't
just like him cuz he is cute, but I like him cuz he is
a good player, that talks to the kids, signs the
autographs, and is not 1 of those guys that takes being a
celeb. for granted like Rodman. He does the stuff he
does for fun (Jeter) But Rodman does it for the $$ and
the attention. And Jeter might get the MVP award. He
is leading the Al in almost everything! See every1
later.
ey I agree that Jeter's numbers are incredible.
He does have the potential to hit homers, as well as
being good in all other areas of the game. BUT....you
can't go jumping to conclusions so soon. Joe Shmoe from
Afganistan could win the MVP at this point. It is WAY too
early to say someone's gonna win. Way too early.
ou're kidding me right? U don't expect him to
keep up those numbers??? What planet R U on??!?!?!?!
Derek's been in the majors for 3 or 4 years now, he has
the talent to hit maybe 30 homers!!! I mean, if ARod
can hit all those homers, Jeter can do the same!!!!!
s a long-time Jeter fan (we're talking
Greensboro Hornet days, '93), I totally think Jeter will be
the AL MVP. April is usually his worst month,
typically he won't get hot until July and August...that's
kinda scary if history stays true this season. Jeter
has worked hard in the post-season to improve his
power production because during his arbitration
hearings the only thing the Yankees office could say about
him was that he didn't hit enough jacks. He's off to
a helluva start this season, just missed 2 homers
today. He came in third in balloting for MVP last year,
I think he'll go all the way this year.
