Maria joined the Phoenix Mercury in the WNBA in 1998 at just 19 years of age, after they selected her with their first pick (8th overall) of the draft.
She played there for 4 seasons before taking some time off to have a baby.
In that time she lifted her averages from 3.3 points & 1.9 rebounds in 6.5 minutes per game, up to an excellent 10.4 points, 6.3 rebounds & 2.0 blocked shots in 25.5 minutes, to be truly one of the stars if the team.

We are all hoping to see this talented player back in the WNBA as soon as possible!
