Hello All,

Even though the A's got swept by the Royals yesterday, the Green
Stampede had great success off of the field. The Elmhurst (East
Oakland) Weed & Seed Program (A federal initiative) voted unanimously
to give a grant to The Green Stampede for $5,000. This money will
allow the Green Stampede to give stipends to college students and
teachers so we can work with greater numbers of East Oakland middle
school students in the coming year.

Special Kudos to Board Member Nicolas Heidorn (who is now off at
Harvard Law School) who wrote the grant and to former student/current
tutor Joey Hernandez who helped present our program to the committee
last night. Way to go!
