Just a quick follow up after last night’s Green Stampede Board
Meeting of a possibly community relations project:
On Friday, April 11th from 9:45 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at U.C. Berkeley
there is an event titled “I’m Going to College”, where 300 5th & 6th =
graders from Oakland Unified & West Contra Costa Unified School
District will get the opportunity to become college students for a
day.
We need volunteers (preferably current college students, either
undergrad or grad) to either pair up with another student to teach
one or two 25 minute classes of up to 30 5th & 6th graders or anyone
who’s interested and available to accompany a group for the day,
during guided tours of the campus and to their classes.
We also need a few great speakers to talk to the 5th & 6th graders
about college. It would only be about a 2.5 minute motivational
speech. Personal stories work great. We need ALL the help we can get,
so even if you aren’t available on April 11th, but know someone else
who is and can represent the Green Stampede as well then please
contact either Monica Montenegro, East Bay Consortium Executive
Director or Mandy Ruiz, EBC Program Coordinator at 510-879-8367 and
ask about volunteering for “I’m Going to College”.
It’s really a great event. Please let us know if you or anyone you
know is interested in inspiring 300 5th & 6th graders to go to
college.
