If Traxel has anything left and is able to help us, more power to him. He
didn't pitch that badly in tonight's start just allowing three runs in six
innings. We were just not scoring many runs on his behalf. With the Cards and
Brewers both winning, the Cubs half just a scant half game lead over the Brewers
with the Cards just one game back. The Cubs could fall out of first place as
soon as tomorrow if they're not careful. This would be an ideal time for our
Cubs to get hot and reel off a bunch of wins in succession.

Subject: [The Cubhouse] Re: The Podsednik rumor
Oops. I should have kept reading more posts.
Didn't mean to add one more comment to a topic that had already been beaten to
death!
While I'm at it though, I can add a comment about the Cubs post-deadline
deals. I think
Hendry did a pretty good job of adding some players who could help out some.
Take Monroe for example. The Cubs have had a heck of a time doing anything
against
left-handed pitching. Beats me why, but they have. Monroe's overall stats
don't look very
good, but he'd been hitting over .300 against lefties in Detroit this year. So
he's a role
player to pinch hit or play against lefties. Not a bad idea.
And how about Steve Trachsel? I don't know what he has left, but if Will Ohman
or Michael
Weurtz gets left off the playoff roster in exchange for him, I can't see
getting too upset.
Not a lot of big news that's likely to happen after July 31, but those are two
useful
attempts.
I know people were disappointed that nothing big happened right BEFORE July 31
either.
We did get Jason Kendall, which has worked out reasonably well. And look
around MLB at
how little really happened everywhere else. The deals just weren't there to
make. Mark
Texiera got moved, but we didn't need a first baseman. Eric Gagne got moved. .
. and it
looks like we're lucky it wasn't to us! Other than that. . . not much.
Hendry's continued to do a decent job, and the moves still look like a team
that's doing
what it can to win.
