Goaltenders:
Mike Brown, Jordan Sigalet, Mike Ayers.
Jordan Sigalet is probably the most "ready for prime time" out of the three.
If Providence has a fairly decent crop of blueliners, they might end up
making any combination of goaltending tandem look pretty good. If the d-men
leave the goaltenders out to dry, Sigalet definitely has the best chance of
making the necessary standing-on-head type saves. :)
Defensemen:
Andrew Alberts, Matt Lashoff, Jonathan Sigalet, Frank Rediker, Guillaume
Lepine, Mark Stuart, Michael Korenko, Jesse Lane, Evan Shaw, Bobby Gates.
Based on the two days of rookie camp that I've witnessed, if Andrew Alberts
doesn't make Boston's opening night line-up, it will be a crying shame.
It'll be interesting to see how he fares against NHLers. I'll be going to
veteran training camp on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, so I'll try to get
some reports in on how the rookies who make it to veteran camp look. Matt
Lashoff, as highly touted a 1st round pick (this past summer) as he is, the
guy won't be sticking around. He has potential, but he will more than
likely spend at least a couple more years in the OHL (Kitchener). Jonathan
Sigalet was ok; more solid than several of the others in camp. He'll most
likely be heading back to Bowling Green for his sophomore year. Frank
Rediker... if he can go back to the OHL as an over-ager (he's 20 years old),
please have him do that. If he can't do that, it's my hope he'll be
assigned to an ECHL team, because I don't think he's anywhere near ready for
the AHL. Guillaume Lepine is heading back to the QMJHL, but he was
certainly worth a look. Mark Stuart may very well end up in Providence, at
least to start the season. He was "ok", but he didn't do anything that
really grab anyone's attention. It's quite possible he's waiting to show
his stuff once he gets to veteran camp. Michael Korenko will be heading
back to the Q as well, but he was ok.... nothing spectacular, but not a bad
showing for a just-turned 18-year old in his first pro camp. Jesse Lane,
Evan Shaw and Bobby Gates are all 21 years or older, so I'm not sure where
they'll be playing, but any of them might do ok as 4th or 5th blueliners in
Providence.
Forwards:
Ashton Rome, Petr Kalus, Milan Gajic, Ben Walter, Benoit Mondou, Tyler
Redenbach, Scott Mifsud, Peter Zingoni, Ryan Watson, Nate Thompson, Kris
Versteeg, Lukas Vantuch, Cody McLeod, Anton Hedman, Wacey Rabbit, David
Krejci, Adam Paiement, Brian McConnell, Martin Karsums.
I wish Wacey Rabbit was old enough to play in Providence because this kid is
amazing to watch. He is VERY quick on his skates and he has very good
puck-handling skills as well. He's also not afraid to get into traffic, and
for a guy as small as he is (5'10", a smidgen under 170 lbs.), his speed and
maneuvering through traffic will have you getting out of your seat to watch
and your jaw dropping (at least he will if he continues in this trend). :)
Kris Versteeg and David Krejci were also pretty impressive, but they're
still eligible to play in juniors, so they'll very likely be sent back to
their respective teams as well. Petr Kalus is a gritty, hard working player
who played in the Czech Juniors last season... not sure if he'd be eligible
to play in Providence, but I think he has the talent/skill to do okay in the
AHL, even as an 18-year-old fresh out of Euro-Juniors. Nate Thompson's short
stint in the AHL last spring definitely gives him an edge and it's a lock
that he'll be in Providence, and may even see a call-up should there be
injuries in Boston. Ben Walter is also probably a lock for Providence and he
should fare quite well there as well. I don't know if Benoit Mondou will be
heading back to Canadian Juniors as an over-ager or if he'll be sent to
Providence, but the P-Bruins may well benefit from his solid play if the
Bruins brass like what they saw of him thusfar. Martin Karsums hasn't
played at all during rookie camp. He had ankle surgery over the summer, but
we saw him doing some skating drills with one of the staffers after the
scrimmage was finished today. He's likely to be sent back to Juniors as
well. The rest of the forwards... I really don't know where they'll end up.
Some are still Juniors-eligible, others definitely aren't... not sure the
ones who are AHL-eligible would be AHL-ready, however.
