Bruins feel out Thornton: Discuss contract, rumors of trade
By Steve Conroy
Wednesday, July 7, 2004
If Joe Thornton wants to be traded, as a recent published report stated,
neither he nor his agent has said so publicly.
After speaking with Thornton's agent, J.P. Barry, yesterday, Bruins
general manager Mike O'Connell is satisfied that his prized captain does not
want to be moved. O'Connell said he's also planning to start negotiating
with Barry on a new Thornton deal in the next few days.
But one gets the feeling that not all is hunky-dory between Thornton
and the Bruins.
Reached last night, Barry remained tight-lipped.
``I'm not going to comment right now. I need some time to have
discussions with the Bruins to determine where they see Joe's future is in
Boston,'' Barry said.
