Viet Nam Swans played Jakarta Bintangs in Jakarta last weekend. The final score - Swans lost - did not reflect the good time both on and off the field that was had by both teams throughout the weekend. A couple of guys from the Bintangs send their best - one in particular called Darren, a 45 year old rugby player (also ex Malaysian Warrior) who I think you teamed up with when you played for Malaysia in the AFL champs.

Most of the Swans are based in HCMC now and would love to host the Brunei boys and girls at an international (could combine a footy/netball weekend). Should there be lads with itchy touring feet, drop Phil Johns, Swans President, a line. He'll bend over backwards to help you get over. Age is no excuse as I'm 52, still an idiot an keen to play, despite my very suspect hamstrings.

Food for thought.

Well another Grand Final has come and gone! This year�s edition was a beauty � a cracking game, great company, an international visitor (great to see you there Houla!) and plenty of apples courtesy of the great man, Motor Bike (well done Big Fella).

It is only fitting that we recognise the efforts of a few people in the lead up to the great day. So thanks to�

President Deano - fantastic work with the glasses and organising the Tarp with Harro. Thanks too Angie for organising the membership cards and to Amanda for sorting the signs, apple tokens and sweeps. Ta to Whitey for helping with the set up, Brian

for being the only bloke with the technical know how to sort the TV and data projector. Thanks too, to all of the girls who made the salads � given the amount of blokes who were present, quite a lot was eaten, Houla, Ken Hill and Willows also did a great job with the clean up the following day � an arduous task!

Finally, three big thank yous � to Judda for pulling the whole day together and especially to Ian and Michele for allowing us to use their house. The bbq, pies and chips take a lot of effort and are greatly appreciated by us all. Finally, if I have missed anyone, I apologise!

Given that the next two weeks promise to be busy for a number of people, our next game will be on Thursday October 15^th with Fellowship to follow.

Finally, congratulations to our outgoing President Judda and his wife Amanda upon the arrival of baby girl, Jamison Anne, a sister for Tiger.

Revised Directions to Sleazy!

From Jalan Tutong, heading away from Bandar:

Go past the ‘new Hua Ho at Bunut (it’s on the left);
Take next right hand turn – Jalan Tanjung Bunut Kanan – there is a right hand turning lane.
Sleazy is on that road but you have to follow that road a bit of a way, over a few speed bumps; round a few bends and down a hill – the gates tio Sleazy are at the bottom of the hill on the right.

From Jalan Jerudong, heading away from Jerudong beach:

Take left hand turn at the traffic lights onto Spg 396 – a little way after you have passed HSBC on right and the fire station on the left;
Follow road down hill, round bends, over speed humps.
Take left turn onto 124-122 - just after a speed bump, there is a white electricity hut on the corner;
follow road over speed bumps, over bad bumpy road; till you get to T- junction – no sign post
Take left turn at T- junction, past vegetable patches!
Follow road round bend, over little bridge,
Take first left after small bridge (Spg 38-96) and Sleazy is there on your left

Well done to those who had a really good run around last night- unfortunately the 5^th quarter wasn’t played due to the BARFL’s established lightning rule (which is: everyone is safe as long as there’s someone taller than you on the field- so I duly called a halt to the proceedings)

Thanks also to those who came along to the Border to help us stock up for GF day, only 8 sleeps to go. Just a warning, people who have not ordered names to be engraved onto the glass may still do so, although these will only eventuate if sufficient stock can be located.

Welcome back to a new school year. In the world of AFL it is finals time, which means 4 weeks til BARFL Grand final Day. Put 12pm Saturday 26th September in your diary as the first big social event of the year, whether or not you're interested in the football.

For the new staff, BARFL grand final day is held at the Salzeila Garden residents (directions below), and there is a pool available for kids. There are draws and raffles, competitions, prize giving, pies and refreshments, as well as corporate couch winners.

This week is the first BARFL football run of the new year, so come down to Shark Park (aka the JIS pitch) at 4:45pm THIS THURSDAY for a game of Australian Rules football. For all rugby or soccer players, we don't play anything like you'd have seen on Channel Four in the 1980's, it's a much more leisurely pace, so you're very welcome to bring your boots and have a go. Any capable big kids welcome too!

Following the game is fellowship, for players and socialites where drinks and BBQ sausages are available from 8pm, held at the Salzeila Garden Pool.

Directions to Sleazy! (Salzeila Gardens)

From Jalan Tutong, heading away from Bandar:

1. Go past the ‘new Hua Ho at Bunut (it’s on the left);

2. Take next right hand turn – Jalan Tanjung Bunut Kanan – there is a right hand turning lane.

3. Sleazy is on that road but you have to follow that road a bit of a way, over a few speed bumps; round a few bends and down a hill – the gates tio Sleazy are at the bottom of the hill on the right.

From Jalan Jerudong, heading away from Jerudong beach:

1. Take left hand turn at the traffic lights onto Spg 396 – a little way after you have passed HSBC on right and the fire station on the left;

2. Follow road down hill, round bends, over speed humps.

3. Take left turn onto 124-122 - just after a speed bump, there is a white electricity hut on the corner;

4. follow road over speed bumps, over bad bumpy road; till you get to T- junction – no sign post

5. Take left turn at T- junction, past vegetable patches!

6. Follow road round bend, over little bridge,

7. Take first left after small bridge (Spg 38-96) and Sleazy is there on your left

Thanks to all once again for the great run and fellowship last week. Fantastic to see two fit sides taking the benefits of the long mid season bye that we had.

Starting next term BARFL will run more regularly up until Xmas.
