Rannoch's antics with eye ointment made me realise that I needed to do a lot
more work on a calm down cue. I set aside this week to get headlowering really
sorted.
Day three and he is now lowering his head to the dirt and staying there for a
while and I've just started being a little more selective and clicking him only
when his feet are square and his neck is gently flexed towards me.
So now I'm not sure whether to keep going for the whole week and try and get
some extra bits ....or whether to leave it there for the time being.
..the trouble is that he now thinks headlowering is the answer to every
question.
On the other hand should I keep going a bit longer and get headlowering on a
poll pressure cue (its currently being achieved by sliding my hands down the
lead rope and putting up a tai chi wall)
BTW his backing now looks "on the bit" gorgeous!
(I've posted this question on the highland pony forum too, so apologies for
those who have had to read it twice!)
