RE: [the_click_that_teaches] Re: Saddle Questions

Hi Linda,

I did get a back saver pad that Heather sells on her site because one of my horses is a little bit atrophied along her spine.  But that’s the only horse I use an extra pad with.  I like the SBS much better from a position AND comfort perspective than the Ansur, but that’s just my experience, I know many folks that adore Ansur.   For me, the SBS invites the correct position, which I love.

As far as the SBS, because it doesn’t have a hard tree, the rider’s weight causes it to mold to the horses’ back to some extent.  It does have a gullet, which Ansur does not.  I have noticed that my horses sweat evenly under the SBS.  I don’t know if that helps you at all, but it’s an indicator that some people use.  Also, the Ansur, without a gullet, could slide to the side some and the SBS doesn’t, even when mounting.

There are distributors across the US and in Europe for Heather’s saddles and you can take one on trial and ride in it to your heart’s content in order to determine if it’s right for you.  They have demo models for that purpose.  The “distributors” were very helpful in my search, although I found the SBS on ebay and at the time I was looking, the US distributor didn’t have the model of Fheonix I wanted, otherwise I would have ended up with one of those.

The other remarkable thing about this saddle is that it was literally new, not a mark on it, but the leather is SO soft, there was literally no break in period.  Amazing!

Hi Elain,

Thankyoufor this information. I will look into the SBS. I had an Ansur
but sold it as I did not like the position it put me in. I could not
get it to lie on my horses back in a balanced position. It was always
sloping back. If I used a riser pad It just made my horse very
uncomfortable. Can I ask how the saddle fits your horse? Does it lay
even? Do you need special pads?

Thanks for the input.

Warm Regards,

Linda
