I'm so excited! The farrier just left. She trimmed Gambler's back
foot with no problem! I had her stop with one foot. It was too good
to risk going for 2.
Last weekend Gambler and I went back to the beginning in our
training-all the way to the stall. I did several short session in a
day. We also revisited our head lowering. And of course we
practised our foot handling. I used the steps on the mounting block
for a stand. My girlfriends came over and just picked his feet up
and then let him be. Having the head lowering as an option for his
mouthiness worked wonders. He didn't even bite my toes and he was
so relaxed for the farrier. Thanks everyone!
I really tried to stay focused and be the same trainer I am when no
one is around. So often I'll change my ways when other horse people
are around as I know they don't approve of "the treat thing". I
think the changes are subtle but I'm sure this contributes to
Gambler's confusion.
Feels so good.
