Hey, has anyone here been to a Tet. qualifying rally near Maine. I'm
trying to qualify for nationals 08 but Maine does not hold one and I
don't know anyone else who has ever competed in Tetrathlon.
Hello all -
I wanted to let you know that I now have 16 Tet converts from two
clubs here in New Mexico. Willie Stettinius was here this weekend.
The goals were to de-mystify Tet for the kids and parents, and to get
the kids excited abut the sport(s). We spent Friday afternoon at the
Los Alamos Sportsmans Club trying four different models of air
pistols, discussing rules, range safety, shooting and scoring
strategies, and asking lots of questions. Friday evening was a potato
bar potluck. Saturday morning saw cold rain/wind/sleet, but the kids
turned out mounted anyway. We shared horses, learned about Tet riding
strategies, the differences between SJ and Tet scoring, and did gates,
gates and more gates. Lunch was Pizza at a local church with much
discussion about rules and rallies. Afternoon was swimming. The kids
had some coaching on strokes and turns, and had a "time trial" so they
have a baseline time to begin their swim training. As we only had a
partial weekend, we didn't try to do a run segment.
On behalf of the Los Alamos Pony Club and the Watermelon Mountain Pony
Club kids and parents, I would like to sincerely thank Willie for his
time and his expertise. Tet is daunting for those uninitiated - his
visit has gone a long way toward making the kids and the parents more
comfortable - we shall be putting on a rally this spring!
Thanks Willie!

From what I remember from last year, even though the rulebook says polo and jodphurs, the kids did wear formals. This was at the Mid-Atlantic Region Tetrathon. Hope this helps.

That sounds like Willie Stettinius. He is on the Tet committee and his

the caplen company is contributing $50 to Tet for each software CD sold
to a Tet member / family. This will provide Tet with additional funds
to offset the costs associated with International Exchanges, Clinics,
etc. ... and gives each Tetrathlete the tools they need to computerize
their entire Pony Club career (animal care records and rating
advancement activities).
It's a WIN-WIN for Tet and the Tetrathlete.
See the ad on page 39 of USPC News, or go to the Tet website for more

Hi Pam:
Are you going to post the results of the Maryland Rally anywhere? It would be
fun to see how everyone did.

Pam & Co. ALWAYS put on a top notch Rally. Glad to hear that your
first resulted in a good impression of Tetrathlon.
Don't be a stranger ... we're having too much fun riding, running,
shooting and swimming ... as well as watching the kids belly-laugh and
make new/lasting friends.

Dear Lisa:
Yes! I went thru the "Target Shooting Phase Rules" even thou its not
written in the manuel, sharing a pistol is permited. I'll talk to
Dean about it and include a paragraph about sharing pistol in
next year revised manuel.

I must admit I am looking forward to my daughter's first tetrathlon I
think more than she is!!! She was able to go to the show jumping
rally in Quentin, PA as a stable manager (and have tons of fun) whereas
I had to stay home, so maybe that is some of the reason!!! She is
partially getting ready by doing soccer camp (running), swim team
(swimming), riding she has no problem with, but you can kiss shooting
goodbye!! Sorry, love the child and all, but she can't shoot the side
of a barn from 5 ft. away!
We will see you all there!
Kristen
Just watch out for when Quinn shoots! HA!
Hi All,
I am looking for a mount for one of my C2's for the Intermediate
Division. Lynne is a competent rider but currently is leasing a horse
that is not at all reliable for jumping. She borrowed a horse for the
Regional Rally and we are hoping someone can help us find one for
Championships. Please email me personally if you can help us out.

Kristen,
The Wild Card division is a division not listed in the rulebook. I'm
the organizer of the Maryland competition and after years of hearing
the older pony clubbers say they can't jump that high, can't run or
swim those distances. I thought we would try it. Please encourage
your daughter to come! email me Pamjs313@...

I suspect the wild card division you speak of is the intermediate divison; it is
still a bit much for a D1 as the jumps will be 2'9", just as in Novice. The run
is 1K and the swim is 100 feet. (Or yards, depending on the pool.)
You might check with your organizers. Often they will schedule divisions that
are non qualifying where the fences are lower, the run is shorter and they swim
either 25' or 50' , for kids that are just learning.

Hi, am new to not only tetrathlon, but also pony club. My daughter
just participated in games over the weekend and LOVED it! Any hoo, I
was just informed that there is a new wild card division, and I am not
finding it any where. This is so good as she is 11 and rated as only a
D-1. Are there any other requirements or "musts" for that division
that anyone knows about?
Thanks,
Kristen
Lisa,
The Intermediate Division was created so that youth members, many
having never competed in Tetrathlon, could have an opportunity to
participate in the Tet discipline. When a youth member enters a
Rally as an Intermediate, they will compete against other
Intermediates, using the Novice performance standards.

Why can't the kids run, shoot and swim at their age level and ride at their rating level? My concern is having my D3 jumping so much higher than her rating. She is obviously working towards a C1, but I am just not comfortable having her jump Jr or Sr heights. I believe that the jump heights is a major factor in attracting new families to Tet.
Hi Phyllis...
Before you go all the way to Oklahoma, how 'bout jumping down two
levels at MD Rally ... that's a 400 point penalty, but allows you to
stay closer to home.
If there is an issue of trying to qualify for Champs, then if Sara
hasn't already attended Champs as an Intermediate, then perhaps she
could attend the MD Rally as an Intermediate, which jumps to the
Novice standards.

a divison, the 3'3 heights are probably too much for Salsa at her age
and current level of activity. We have found a rally in Claremore
Okalahoma that we can haul Sara's horse to in June. It is an 8 hour
haul from here, but at that level I would feel better if she were on
a horse she knew well.

Lisa,
competitors can share pistols, it is a good idea to let the organizer
know they are sharing so both competitors are not scheduled in the
same shooting heat together.

Hi Pam!
Sorry to keep you hanging on this long! We've decided that the Senior level
fences are too high for Salsa, and that it probably isn't reasonable to borrow a
horse for that level. Even riding down a divison, the 3'3 heights are probably
too much for Salsa at her age and current level of activity. We have found a
rally in Claremore Okalahoma that we can haul Sara's horse to in June. It is

Do you have many kids signing up for Senior Girls this year? It will be
interesting to see how many of the girls that competed at Intermediate last year
will be moving up.
Thanks again.
