Hello all -
I wanted to let you know that I now have 16 Tet converts from two
clubs here in New Mexico. Willie Stettinius was here this weekend.
The goals were to de-mystify Tet for the kids and parents, and to get
the kids excited abut the sport(s). We spent Friday afternoon at the
Los Alamos Sportsmans Club trying four different models of air
pistols, discussing rules, range safety, shooting and scoring
strategies, and asking lots of questions. Friday evening was a potato
bar potluck. Saturday morning saw cold rain/wind/sleet, but the kids
turned out mounted anyway. We shared horses, learned about Tet riding
strategies, the differences between SJ and Tet scoring, and did gates,
gates and more gates. Lunch was Pizza at a local church with much
discussion about rules and rallies. Afternoon was swimming. The kids
had some coaching on strokes and turns, and had a "time trial" so they
have a baseline time to begin their swim training. As we only had a
partial weekend, we didn't try to do a run segment.
On behalf of the Los Alamos Pony Club and the Watermelon Mountain Pony
Club kids and parents, I would like to sincerely thank Willie for his
time and his expertise. Tet is daunting for those uninitiated - his
visit has gone a long way toward making the kids and the parents more
comfortable - we shall be putting on a rally this spring!
Thanks Willie!
