My wife and I attended Dan Kelly's Challenge Doubles last night. I am a
physician. Due to my specialty I usually do not get emergercy calls onthe
weekend. Unfortunately for two patients they became quite sick on Saturday
night.
I was paged by my answering service while we were at the Challenge doubles.
I naturally returned the calls since the text messages in my beeper
indicated both patients needed immediate attention. During the first call
Dan kelly indicated my wife and I were to take a court. When Mr. Kelly saw
me on the phone he started yelling at me to get off the phone from 10-15 yds
away. I was trying to speak with the nurse caring for the patient in the
hospital so I tried to wave him away. He only yelled louder and more
sarcastically as I was trying to deal with this medical emergency. I told
him to shut up. He then came over to me and started cursing at me in
language that most rappers can not get broadcast on FM radio. I tried to
ignore him at this point and he threatened me that he would throw me out if
I did not get off the phone. I asked him to wait a couple of minutes so I
could explain. My wife left the court to allow another doubles team to
play.
The second patient that called suddenly developed a temperature to 102
degees and shaking chills one day after a biopsy. He was gravely ill witha
life threatening infection and needed to get to the hospital immediately to
receive iv fluids and iv antibiotics. As I was trying to make the
arrangements with the patiint and the hospital emergency department, Mr.
Kelly again used foul language, calling me names, and threatened that if I
did not gat off the phone he"would take me outside and kick my ass."
Despite the threats I continued to make arrangements for my second patient.
While I was attending to my patient's needs, my wife then tried to moderate
and tried to explain the extenuating circumstances. He continued his
diatribe and would not let her get a word in edge wise. She then touched
his cheek and said a sarcastic comment. He then threatened to call the
police and have her arrested for assault.
Needless to say we left soon after fearing for our safety from this
obviously out of control individual. In addition I had to get to the
hospital to meet my patient in the Emergency room.
Just wanted to let my friends at tennisforfun know about this incident.
