I arrived Saturday with the kids and wife and setup the base camp,
tents, bbq, seats and enjoy a good lunch with a big piece of beef on
the BBQ and salad , cheese (french stuff)...nap
Around 5:00PM I went for a pre-ride with Theophile(10). 1 hours 40 min
for a lap...
Then food again, bread cheese, pasta..(french stuff)
The course was in good shape and i was feeling Ok so I decided that I
could spend $40 and race , my first race of the year!!
Most of you know Skyline and the course did not change at all, during
the pre-ride I had the chance to look around, it is really a nice place.
At the starting line, the xpert and pro first then a second wave for
the sport , big wave , a lot of dust , barely see the trail for the
first 50 meters. during the climb I take it easy and got the feeling
that everybody is passing me.. I decided not to look back but to focus
on the race.
Thanks to the preride the race has no surprise, i remember all the
small details and can negociate smoothly most of the obstacle. At mid
course I start to pass a lot of riders and catchup with the expert
lead woman and pass her not without fight, at the end the first lap my
familly is at the small bridge and they shoot at me "2 minutes", I
have 50 min at my watch.
I start the 2nd lap, with the same pace, not 100% race pace because I
want to make sure to finish that race..
At the end of the climb , I spot a TWW jersey (Loren), I shoot at him
, "Go Go, keep going" translate to you "you are dead meat !! I'm going
to get you" and 30 sec later I'm behind a pro women just behind
Loren, she shoot "on the left", I add "2 on the left", pass Loren and
then pass the girl..
Now the race is moderate climb and then downhill section, I finish the
race at very good pace and finish 8 just after Mike Urbina.
I think I could have done a 3rd lap at the same pace, in fact my first
lap was 53min and my 2nd was 50min.
I'll do it again next year !! and I wish to see even more TWW jersey
to support Eagle cycling club.
