Well it's that time of year again. Ready to go but....still to cold and wet to go outdoors. Casey has proposed the perfect solution! Sunday (last day for open skating this year) at the Pettit Olympic Oval. It will be warmer and drier at the Pettit than outdoors.
Picture this if you will:
You walk into the cavernous building. Before you is the 1/4 mile oval of the smoothest, coldest ice you have ever seen. Flags of all the participating countries surround the olympic flag. Banners for the US medal winners are at center ice. Personal record banners hanging in the turns. Countless high speed records have been set on this oval. Heart rates (and brain rates) have exceeded redline many times in these turns.- I'm getting goose bumps just writing about it.
Anyway, you've got a perfect opportunity to give it a try Sunday from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Casey, Murphy, & I will be there if you've got any questions. In case you hadn't noticed, Casey's long track technique is in the "Ultra Smooth" class, so you get the advantage of learning from a Master. Even if you haven't skated ice, just remind yourself - "If George can do it......"
The Pettit rents speed skates, or we might be able to set you up with some blades to bolt up to your inline boots. The Pettit is an easy highway drive at the junction of 894 and 94 in West Allis, WI.
Hope to see you there.
