US Speedskating is webcasting this weekend's "Short Track Nationals" from the Pettit. There are a lot of familiar faces here this weekend including Jessica Smith, Chris Creveling (who won Duluth last year), our own Sadie Grace (not fully recovered, but officiating) etc, etc. The webcast starts at 7:40 AM Sat and will continue until about 7:00 PM, continuing on Sun. Check out the action by clicking on the "webcast" button on the USS front page:

In other ice news, Brian Hansen continues on a "round the world flyer". Brian skated with us at Sears as well as helping us out on the Walk & Roll.

FROM US SPEEDSKATING:
Brian Hansen officially  finished 6th in the World for all Juniors.

The US  men had the second best finish in the individual allround events
with 4th ,6th (Brian) and 10th place finishes.

The US  raced as a team in the team pursuit and took third  for the bronze
medal.

His individual results were 5th in the 500 meter ,10th in the 3000,5th in
the 1500 and 9th in the 5000 meter.

His allround score based on his time was 6th.

The ISU web site finally has the results up with a summary story that told
me info I didn't know.
< BR>Brian finished ahead of China's #1 distance skater (including Juniors and
Seniors) in 2 out 4 events and nearly got him in the overall classification
.

He also finished ahead of Canada's top Junior skaters including one who was
4th at last years Junior World Championships.

All the results can be found at ISU.org click on speedskating and  then
click on the Junior World Box in the upper right hand corner.I copied part
of the story below but I'm not sure if the links will work

In the men's field, Trevor Marsicano (USA) and Philippe Riopel (CAN), who
finished third and fourth last year, hoped to improve their result and
started well. Riopel won the 500m with the only sub-37 time of 36.79,
Marsicano finished third behind Kazakh sprinter Roman Kretsj. In fourth was
Jan Blokhuijsen followed by Brian Hansen (USA) and Koen Verweij. This was
the only podium for non-Dutch men, because Jan Blokhuijsen, Koen Verweij and
Berden de Vries from the Netherlands took 1-2-3 in the 3000m, and would not
allow anybody else near them from there on. Jordan Belchos and Trevor
Marsi cano finished fourth and fifth in that distance. De Vries joined
Blokhuijsen for the win in the 1500m, where Verweij finished third and
Marsicano fourth, followed by Brian Hansen and Chinese talent Xingyu Song.
In the final 5000m, Koen Verweij got a bit closer to leader Blokhuijsen with
a win, but Blokhuijsen didn't lose too much, finished second and took the
overall victory. Berden de Vries, third in the 5000m, had no problems taking
third overall. Marsicano lost more ground to him there, and finished fourth
overall, fifth was Xingyu Song and then Brian Hansen and Philippe Riopel
followed.

In the team pursuit, the Dutch ladies Leenstra, Van der Geest and Van Hemert
and Lisette Hoekstra won ahead of the German and the Chinese team. The Dutch
men skated to victory in the men's event, Italy and USA completed the
podium.
