Saturday, March 8th's Argonaut Death Ride Off-Island Ride   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #2530 of 2693 |
Team Alameda:

Please get back directly to me if you can be a carpool DRIVER or carpool RIDER, and if you are a DRIVER, please let me know how many bikes you can take down to Saratoga for March 8th's Argonaut Death Ride with my ACTC mates.  We need to BE ROLLING from Alameda at 8am, so if you a RIDER, you need to get down to Kaiser at about 7:45 so you can get loaded up on a car.

Not to under- or over-sell this ride, but it features very difficult and long and steep climbs, so if you have been riding with Brian and Jim on their MoFo climbing rides, join us to test your early season fitness on some longer climbs.  Featured climbs include:
  • Montebello: 5.3 miles, 10 - 12% steady grades, about 2000 feet of climbing, figure 45 - 60 minutes to summit,
  • Redwood Gulch: 1.3 miles, very steep pitches, about 500 feet of climbing, 15 - 30 minutes to summit,
  • Highway 9 (Saratoga to Skyline): 7.3 miles, 6 - 8% steady climb, 2000 feet of climbing, 60 - 75 minutes to summit,
  • Bohlman: 4.3 miles, the MoFo of them all, very very steep pitches, 2000 feet of climbing, 60 - 75 minutes to summit.
  • Sanborn (optional): 1.5 miles, two steep "steps," about 500 feet of climbing, 15 - 25 minutes of climbing.
All these climbs are clustered close together around downtown Saratoga and Stevens Canyon Road.  There are many bailout possibilities in case you lose it.  For directions, google Mountain Mike's Pizza, 12850 Saratoga Sunnyvale Rd, Saratoga, CA, and it's a pretty straight-forward route down to there--880-S to 237-W to 85-S to DeAnza exit to the Safeway mini-mall at Pierce and Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road.  Park on the north side of the mini-mall on the side of the pizza place.

Below is my listing on the ACTC Ride List:

Tour of the Argonaut Alps (aka: Argonaut Death Ride)

9:00 AM
60 mi, 6 M

As a prelude to kicking off another Argonaut Monday/Thursday Season, your esteemed ride leader would like to host a Death Ride of his own by hitting the toughest goats in ONE DAY that we climb all through the season. If youve been keeping up your winter training, you should be strong enough to take our tour. Meet and be ready to roll at 9am at the Argonaut Shopping Center on Sunnyvale-Saratoga road east side just south of Pierce in Saratoga. Park at Mountain Mikes Pizza. Numerous bail-out points for shorter options. Co-listed with Team Alameda.

People just don't realize the danger they're causing other people." -- Cadel Evans, 2007 ProTour champion, admitting that training on the road has its unsettling moments
