I'm a brand new triathlete, so keep that in mind when you read the rest
of my comments. It may turn out that I have no idea what I'm talking
about, and my concerns may be unique to me.
Some things I would like to get out of a clinic are an understanding of
what things I'll wish I had known before getting into my first race.
When I decided to do tris, I had a basic understanding of how to swim,
bike, and run, but not in combination. I have no clue what to expect in
the transitions, and how to prepare for a sustained effort of a few
hours. How do I know about how long it should take me to finish a
race? How much and what types of fluid and supplements should I plan
for? What will I need, and what can I do without? How do I set up my
transitions? People who have done a few races and have said "jeez, I
wish I'd thought of that!" would have a lot to add to this.
So those are my very caffeine-deprived thoughts for the day. I may come
up with something slightly more enlightened later, but I need to go
find coffee now.
