Hello TCTRI group!
My name is Bruce Martens and I have been a member of the group since the summer. I race mountain bike on the MNSCS circuit as well as the WORS series, do many of the century rides in Minnesota, the 150 and the TRAM (Prairie Peddlers), race the Headwaters 100, and have just embarked on my iron man career with my first half showing in Chisago half-iron man. I took 3rd in my age group and 23rd overall. I feel pretty good with my performance considering it was my first tri EVER. Needless to say, I'm hooked. So much so in fact, that I've spent the past two months apprenticing under two iron man champions and fine tuning my training knowledge and technique. I am head personal trainer at the University Ave. Anytime Fitness Center and have just taken on my second location at the Lyndale Center, so I am extremely fortunate to be able to train as a job.
As the weather changes and we are forced
indoors, I would like to invite ANYONE to visit me at my clubs, try out the equipment, and most importantly meet potential training partners. I have free passes available to those interested, just give me a reply or contact me via phone at 507_351-5375. Leave a message, as I am often away from my phone. I will get back to you promptly.
Also, I will provide discounted personal training to tctri members due to the fact that you already have a sound fitness base and fine tuning is often all that is necessary. You can check out my profile at www.anytimeMPLS.com. It would be refreshing and a much needed change of clientele to provide my services to goal oriented individuals! Most of my clients are routine "average Joes/Janes" that rarely challenge me professionally. Its nice when I can step out of my role as a cheerleader and really tap into my training
expertise.
In closing, let me again express my gratitude to you all for your inspirational postings; your stories/comments/questions/and enthusiasm keeps me motivated. Keep it up!
Again, PLEASE feel free to contact me throughout the off season and let me know what I can do to help out. Not only do I sincerely enjoy assisting others, I find I am constantly learning and expanding my knowledge in the process.
Yours in health,
B

This was my first season, and I think it went just fine. I did three tri's and one du (plus I did the MS 150 charity bike ride). I surprised myself by never being dead last in any of my races :-)
I really wish I would have trained better, especially the swimming and the running. Things started clicking on my last tri (Brewhouse)!
I can't wait for my second season. I'm going to do Grandma's Marathon (my first marathon....hopefully my knees hold up!), the MS 150 again, hopefully Minneman again, and hopefully do my first oly (probably Turtleman).

season, I'm interested in hearing how things went for everyone. How
many times did you race? What went well for you? What didn't? What
was your best performance/event/moment, and what surprised you the most?
For me, I had 5 tris this season, starting w/ Liberty 1/2 in early June,
ending at Turtleman in August. It honestly was not a great season for
me ... with a new baby in the house, I just didn't get enough real
distance in, and I could feel the lack in each race. I had the most fun
at Heart of Lakes, particularly enjoying the new bike course. My
biggest surprise was the number of events where the swim wasn't wetsuit
legal (3 of the 5) and how big a difference that made in my swim
performance.
How did things go for you?
