Re: [tctri] Re: Workouts

Adam,

your strong areas are mine as well, (if I have any strong areas)  haha.  Seriously though, Swim, swim, swim.  'Total Immersion' is a wonderful swim book that I think would help you out a lot. Right now since you don't feel to confident work a lot on your technique.  Just concentrate on that will lots of pool time and your speed, endurance, and efficiency will improve.  Once you become comfortable than I would suggest speed specific workouts.  Just make sure if you haven't yet done any training in open water I highly recommend doing at least a few before your first tri to just get comfortable with the environment.  Always remember hard work will take you a long way in triathlons, just make sure you are always getting plenty of rest like I had said before.  Plus get into the weight room for the next 3 months, and you will be amazed in the pool alone how much stronger you will be.

Subject: [tctri] Re: Workouts

Thanks for all info.  I have a list of races I want to compete in
(May 21 – Albert Lea, June 25 – North Mankato, July 8 – Elysian,
August 27 – Baxter, and finish the season September 2 in Hudson).

My strong areas are running and biking.  Due the fact that I had 3
shoulder surgeries I'm trying to just survive the swim and get to
the other two.  I know vary little about training for swimming –
other than trying not to drown.  Is there a book you would recommend
that I read or any workouts that you know helped you get ready.

I'm like most of us and am a competitor.  To say that I just want to
finish doesn't cut it for me.  I want to do well like everyone.  I'm
not afraid to put in the time or feel sore – I just don't know what
to do to train properly.

Thanks for all your help.  I'm sure I will be picking your brains
more!!

adam

specifically geared toward key events.  The best thing Adam could do
right know is lay those out, and just put the work in starting
immediately.  I would recommend above average weight training at
least for the next 3 months as this will help with building that
muscle mass that will be lost as the season comes into full swing as
well as increase recovery time, and help to prevent those nagging
injuries that some have throughout the season.  Obviously listening
to your body and getting as much rest as possible, and taking the
right supplements are all key factors that will help in your
performance.  Adam, once you get started you will be SO addicted
just like the rest of us tri-geeks!  Good luck with everything!  And
please let me know if you need help with anything else....
