Good morning!
Following is a suggested training program to learn and master tai chi especially the Yang style. I intend to use this as my roadmap. Please comment. Maybe, you are following a different one-- which could be better. :-)
First or Beginner's Level
- 10 forms - This is easy to learn and it's a good introduction to the yang style and a good preparation for the next levels.
- 12-forms or so-called Tai-Chi for Arthritis - This is the one being taught at the UP Admin ground for as an appreciation session or introduction to Tai Chi, Sun style. If you intend to master the Yang form, I suggest you try the 10-form instead, but this is not taught in UP... Well, I can teach you. :-)
Second Level
- 24-forms - Actually, this is considered to be for beginners. It is said to be the most popular shortened version of the original Yang style which consists of 108 forms. This is the form I was first taught at the UP Admin ground. There are a number of downloadable instructions on this form.
- 37 forms - This is the shortened version of the Yang style, created by Cheng Man Ching. It is said to rival the 24-forms in popularity. There are good illustrated books on this at National Book Store in Mega Mall. I tried to this on my own. Here's a video clip of the form as performed by Cheng Man Ching himself. Instructions are also available at http://www.soton.ac.uk/~maa1/chi/netguide/formshaa.htm
Third Level
The options are:
- 40-forms (I'm currently doing this one on my own. I'm halfway through. :-) )
- 42-forms
- 44, 48, and other shortened Yang stye version
Fourth and final Level
The final stage is the original 108-forms. Here are some sites that provide detailed instructions on this:
Good day! Hope to hear from you, and see you on Sunday!
