I have a handpainted lighweight team of Mexican Primera Division team
CRUZ AZUL. I'm looking to thin out my collection a bit and won't ask
for much - I'll even throw in a free Cruz Azul team (baseball-style)
cap. Please contact me off list.
We've had a few players add recently. Feel free to post here about
Subbuteo and soccer in general.
Most information about the American Subbuteo Assn. has been moved to:
http://www.americansubbuteo.com/
That said, there is information on this board that is not on that
one. In the archives here there is a ton of good info.
Enjoy.

Hi Vincent,
I noticed a loophole in the rules. A player may not have two hands over
the playing AREA, as defined by the touch-lines and goal lines. SO, can
I flick a figure, that is outside the touch-line (outside the playing
area) while my other hand is over the pitch? It seems that the rules
allow that.

We have two new members. One wants to know about new products.
Personally, I'd go with the following:
From http://www.subbuteousa.com/TableSoccerSuppliesForSale.html
Pitch: Woodentop Prima pitch: $64
Figures: Sure Shot (paint your own team): $22 per team (If you don't
paint, he has some already done for a little more)
Balls: Hasbro balls, even though only 1 out of 3 are usually good $7.50
Goals from Connecticut Subbuteo club-retro:
http://www.sc-connecticut.com/images/Retro_goals2.jpg
$????
The bases need a coat of "Future for no-wax floors" on their bottoms
as a "varnish" (this is a once every two years kind of thing) and a
polish (Swiss-T is the best but is very hard to find now. In a pinch,
97 cent "Kleen Guard" furniture polish from Wal-Mart is quite
effective.
Am I forgetting anything?
-WW
PS for an exhaustive discussion of bases, the official ASA Site is a
good place.

Very interesting link
The clubs and regions of Chicago, South Bend, Indianapolis and
Michigan are pleased to announce the formation of a Lake Michigan
Subbuteo Circuit.
Its goal is to help promote the game in each of the four regions,
which are no more than four hours' drive apart from each other.
Each club or region will host three ASA-ranked tournaments per year,
in strict rotation through the season.
Month City
LMSC Rotation
September Indianapolis
October South Bend
November Michigan
December Chicago
January Indianapolis
February South Bend
March Michigan
April Chicago
May Indianapolis
June South Bend
July Michigan
August Chicago
A club can waive hosting a tournament a particular month if they
need to. The plan is to provide a regular schedule of events in the
Lake Michigan region for players to plan on. Each player is
encouraged to attend one of the road trips each season.
Team play will be encouraged! If one team can be taken from each
club to each of the road trips, the teams will have completed a 6-
game schedule throughout the season. Team results will be recognised
in a LMSC table.
There will also be a LMSC individual ranking, the details of which
are yet to be decided.
Players from surrounding areas (Minneapolis, St Louis, Pittsburgh,
Toronto, etc.) or even further afield are encouraged to join us at
any of these events.
The clubs are working on their schedules for the season and a joint
schedule of all tournaments will be released later this summer.
Play in all the standard FISTF individual categories will be
encouraged:
The categories (with their 2005/06 qualifying dates) are:
M = Mini / Under 12 (born in or after 1994)
J = Junior / Under 15 (born in or after 1991)
Y = Youth / Under 19 (born in or after 1987)
V = Veterans (born before Sep.1st 1966)
L = Ladies
Open
A player may compete in any of the categories to which they belong.
For example, a 14-year-old girl can play in any of the categories
except Veteran and Under-12.
The PSFS is looking for new members. We are in the process of setting
up weekly meetings. We play in Center City Philadelphia and Wilmington
Delaware. If your interested in Subbuteo and are near these area email
me at njdynamo@....
Hi Dan,
We are going to play at 7pm on Tuesday May 30th. In Philadelphia. Let me
know if you are interested.

Hello everyone,
First, let me introduce myself. My name is Andrew. A few weekends
ago while cleaning up my parent's garage, I came across my old
Subbuteo sets from over 20 years ago and boy, did that bring back a
lot of great memories! I began exploring the internet to see how
the game is going and I was glad to see that through the likes of
this group, it seems to be doing quite well. This lead me to see if
there are still any active 'flickers' out there. Currently, I live
in Avondale, PA which is only 15 minutes from Newark. I have not
played in years but I sure would like to flick it about again. Hope
to hear from someone. Take care.
Andrew

Great news, hopefully that will help California to have a FISTF tournament in

Thanks for asking!
I forgot to post the results...It's a little late right now, but
they are on the ASA message board and also the SCSC website:
http://scsc.3000mb.com/
We had 10 players, which is the largest tournament that the ASA has
hosted in California as far as I know. 5 are newly registered. Two
of them could get quite good and push me a bit. What's really good
is that the new guys have soccer connections and may be able to
recruit quite a bit on their indoor and outdoor teams.

He wrote me asking about pitches and bases about two years ago. I
don't know what happened to him. He lives about 80 (130 km) miles
away from me.

No, is he another player?

Hi Vincent,
I assume that you mean for the LA Open? We have 9 listed as confirmed
and two as up-in-the-air. I'm figuring on at least 10. We also have
enough tables (5) to have large groups.
-WW
If any of you is interested in playing subbuteo, I think the FISTF
website is a good source of information. Check it at www.fistf.com
Cheers,

There will be an ASA Open on Saturday, April 29, in Northridge, CA.
10 players are scheduled to attend so far. Games will start around 10
AM. If there is anyone interested in playing, please send me an E-
mail or post on this board.

A friend just measured both his teams-all the figures-and found that
his regular (expensive) Raptors average 3.60 g, making them the
heaviest base that I know of.
-WW
HOW HEAVY ARE THEY? Really heavy:
Masses of bases, including figure/ratio of mass to mass of Hasbro solid
Hasbro lightweight: 1.71 gm/ 0.86
Hasbro Solid: 1.98 gm/ 1.00
Pitch Surfer: 2.04 gm/ 1.03
Parodi: 2.06 gm/ 1.04
C6 Astrobase: 2.34 gm/ 1.18
Sure Shot: 2.57 gm/ 1.30
Raptor G2: 3.56 gm/ 1.80
So the Raptors are monsters, 80% heavier than a Hasbro solid and a
whopping 108% heavier than a lightweight. I still have to measure a
standard raptor.
Keep in mind that there will be very slight changes because of
different figures. It doesn't make sense to measure the figures alone
because different bases require different amounts of filing of the
post.
-WW
Much of this is reprinted from my posts on the ASA message board.
I just got a set of Raptor G2s. $14+shipping from Paul Eyes.
Initial impressions-very shiny polished bottom, cap fits really well,
no peg for the weight (you have to try to eyeball getting the weight
in the right place). The weights are huge, but seem to be made of
Zinc and not Aluminum as they really aren't THAT heavy. The overall
weight seems slightly less than the original Raptors. They assemble
very easily.
Play: They are the best gliding base I ahve seen with just a swipe
over a polishing cloth. They require NO treating of any kind.
Shooting with them is interesting and NOT easy. Hitting the ball hard
and it stays low. Hit it softly and the ball pops up beautifully, not
too high and not too long. This can be a great advantage. With Sure
Shots, if you are within 1" of the ball, you can't HELP but hit the
ball high. These seem to be controllable with speed but I find it
very tough to do. They are impossible for me to curl. Others say
they can.
What I found by the end of my first game:
Good:
Glide is the best I've experienced with only a swipe over a polishing
cloth.
Very stable, the most stable I own.
Look great, the most attractive (to me) that I own.
Easiest to assemble of any "pro base"
Heavy, good in defense
Touch is better than I was expecting, because of the great glide and
very low profile.
Great price.
Great for a beginner who doesn't have access to people from whom they
can get help in assembly.
Bad:
Very low profile-it is too easy to miss the base edge (hitting the
top), or clip the pitch while flicking, ruining any chance to make a
long range flick.
Very heavy-one must hit them pretty hard to get them going.
Strange shooting abilities: If you hit them slowly, the ball pops up
beautifully, but hit them a little too hard and they can't chip the
ball, and I can't figure out why. I have a hard time getting the
right speed on the figure.
Will I switch to these?
No. They are fun to use, though. I will use these in my Solitaire
Bundesliga for the blue teams: Schalke, Hertha Berlin and Rostock.
-WW
I see that carrickman08 is in Canada, thanks to the somewhat
obtrusive "targetted advertising" employed by Yahoo. Visit his profile
page and it has Yahoo! Canada ads on it.
It's the cyber equivalent of:
"Did you record the big match for me?"
"Yes, I did"
"Thanks, I can't wait to watch it"
"but you won't enjoy it, there weren't any goals"
Where are you in Canada, carrickman?
.me.
For anyone interested in solitaire Subbuteo results, I have finsihed
week 9 of the 2003 Bundesliga season (yes, I have played 81 games).
The teams are handicapped depending on their performance that season.
Home and away rules are in place too. For more details write me...

Hello carrickman08,
I hope that you get some good info from this board.
Another good, but somewhat chaotic, board is

There are three very good sources for Subbuteo equipment in NA...if
you are interested, I can list their URLs.

And Anderlecht finally scoring a goal...
