That's a given, but it's wise to keep this site here as another way of
saying "hello we're here" to anyone interested.

A rather forgotten crumb trail, but a valid one none the less.

After about 4 years of owning the kits, I finally got around to
painting them up. I posted pics here under "Wayne's Painting."

Here's the URL directly:

The lighting of the pic's made them turn out rather bluer than they
really are...close up flash photography, I guess. They are really a
bit redder than they show up on my monitor.

THAT'S EVEN BETTER! There are active groups in the San Fran area
and a VERY active group here in SoCal. While the next few weeks
will be a little slow, there are events in Simi Valley monthly.
These are MADE FOR BEGINNERS! We use special rules for 3 different
levels of players. We use full FISTF rules when players are of the
same level-since these are a little complex, an experienced player
will help beginners through the game. We use "beginner 2" rules
when experienced players play someone who has only played a few
games. In these rules, the experienced player gets no defensive
flicks and must wait for the beginner to take his defensive
flicks. "Beginner 1" rules are used when the beginner is not that
far behind the more expeienced player. In these rules the
experinced player gets defensive flicks, but must wait for the
beginner to take his defensive flicks.

These rules have been VERY successful. The beginners get lots of
time playing the ball. They also get the time needed to make smart
defensive flicks. Also, most players in the group will help a
beginner with their tactics. In addition, it helps the better
players because it forces them to concentrate on their flicks to
make the best plays they can.

On Saturday July 28th in Northridge there is to be an ASA Open.
Again, players of all levels, including those who have never played
before, are welcome. No beginner rules are used, but everyone there
will take the time to help a beginner and make him feel welcome and
give him suggestions as to how he can improve and enjoy the game.
There is scheduled to play one player who has only played 2 games
before, so if you haven't played before, you won't be alone.

In addition, we usually have one night a week for open play. This
will be sketchy until September because I will be teaching or
learning three nights a week. One player-Simon Hutchinson-has made
every one and has REALLY improved. We also have a great time
talking about world soccer and go to the best Jack-in-the-Box I know
of for dinner (maybe that's not saying much). It's lots of fun.

The Socal group's web site is:

Hi Paul,

If you are from the Washington DC area (guessing from the e-mail
address) then you are in the former hotest Subbuteo spot in the
country! As it is, there is still a place that you can buy Subbuteo
stuff in the DC area (www.Soccerinternatinal.com). In addition, the
NEW hotest spot in the country is West Of Baltimore. A guy there
(Paul Eyes) is a middle school teacher and has about 40 of his
students playing!

http://www.marylandsubbuteo.com/MSC/index.html

and to buy stuff:

If you want to see if there are people in the area that you can learn
from (always a good idea), then place a post on: OOPS! The ASA site
seems to be totally overhauled and I can't even log in anymore!

right now at:

You'll have to join the forum, but they are putting together a list of
people from everywhere in the US who plays or hosts games.

Hi uwarr,

Where it comes to rest.

It is usually the defender's throw-in (flick-in). The only time
that the attacker gets the throw is if all of the following are met:

1) Before the flick, the ball, defending figure and attacking
figure are all ENTIRELY in the same quadrant;

2) The ball passes entirely over the touch line in that same
quadrant.

If the attacker is qualified to score (the ball is intirely in the
shooting zone) and shoots the ball off a defender into the goal, it
is a goal.

>
> 2) A shot from the attacking team strikes the goalkeeper and the

The goalkeeper's team gets the ball and the team that shot gets a
defensive flick.

Which ever team owns the last stationary figure to touch the ball.

No goal...the ball must be flicked at and struck by a figure while
the ball is inside the shooting zone.

Hello Everyone!

It's been many years since I last played table football, but was
surprised and glad to see it's still going, and going strong in some
areas.

I've just joined the group and have read the FISTF rules for table
football. A few questions came to mind after reading the rules.

1) The attacking team loses possession of the ball if it strikes a
stationary defending figure.

  a) Does the defending team take possession where it struck the
figure or where the ball comes to a stop?

The answer to "a" may answer the rest, but if not...

  b) What if the ball strikes the defending figure and rolls over the
touch line. Is it a flick-in for the team that was on the attack, or
the defending team's ball?

  c) Same as above but it rolls into the goal (attacking team struck
the ball inside the scoring line). Is it a goal or defending team's
ball?

2) A shot from the attacking team strikes the goalkeeper and the
ball rolls out of the penalty area. Who has possession of the ball?

    a) the ball strikes the keeper and then deflects off a stationary
attacking figure. Who has possession of the ball?

3) The ball is flicked into the space between the scoring line and
goal by the attacking team. As the ball is rolling it deflects off a
stationary attacking figure and goes into the goal. Is this a goal?

I know this is a lot, and I thank anyone who cares to answer this
newbie's questions.

We've had a few players add recently. Feel free to post here about
Subbuteo and soccer in general.

Most information about the American Subbuteo Assn. has been moved to:
http://www.americansubbuteo.com/

That said, there is information on this board that is not on that
one. In the archives here there is a ton of good info.

Enjoy.
