KAMEN, december 9th, 2001 - After two days of hard competitions, the
reigning champions of Mattersburg (Austria) won their second european
title. Robert Lenz's team had no problem to reach the final after
they dominated a group with Rochefort (Belgium), Delft (Netherlands)
and Aasee Münster (Germany). From the second round, serious things
came and Mattersburg defeated Paris (France) after a very close game
(2-1, 2-0, 1-0 and 0-1).
On sunday, Mattersburg defeated Rotterdam (Netherlands) 3-1 to play
Perugia (Italy. This was probably the closest game of the week-end
and the issue was decided during the sudden death when Vasco
Guimaraes scored the only game of his match against Simone Bertelli
after only 50 seconds in the extra-time.
In the other semi-final, Napoli (Italy) defeated AS Hennuyer
(Belgium) 1-2 in another close game.
The final was really exciting with Vincenzo Varriale scoring two
early goals to Robert Lenz while Markus Matzinger, Erich Hinkelmann
and Vasco Guimaraes put some pressure to help Mattersburg to win
their second european trophy in a row. The details of the finals are
