Klose picks up fair play award
BREMEN: German international Miroslav Klose showed there is still
room for sportsmanship in football on Saturday with the Werder
Bremen star refusing to accept a penalty from referee Herbert
Fandel.
With the score at 0-0, Fandel blew up for a 28th minute penalty
after Klose appeared to be fouled by Arminia Bielefeld goalkeeper
Matthias Hain.
But the Bremen striker raced to the referee to explain there had
been no contact and the official reversed his decision.
"The referees have it hard enough and we have to be honest to make
their job easier," said Klose.
Fandel saluted the honesty of Klose and claims it should be an
example to other players in the Bundesliga.
"In my 25 years in the game I have never experienced anything like
that," confessed Fandel. "Klose is an example for others."
Klose claimed his honesty would pay dividends later on and he was
proved right when he netted on 78 minutes as Bremen won 3-0. – AFP
