At 10 am on Sunday, May 21,
I shall direct the 3rd Annual MITZVAH 5K RUN/2.5K WALK at
Arlington-Fairfax Jewish Congregation, 2920 Arlington Boulevard, Arlington VA
22204
The course is flat and fast
through Arlington's shady Arlington Heights and Penrose neighborhoods.
Gardens and fruit trees are in bloom all along the course.
It's both for fun and to raise money for AFJC's scholarship program.
BTW, a "mitzvah" is a good deed to fulfill a positive commandment.
When Jewish children come of age - 12 for a girl, 13 for a boy -
they can lead the religious service for the first time.
That ceremony is called Bar Mitzvah for a boy or Bat Mitzvah for a girl.
Think of this race as a Run Mitzvah.
We will have "tchotchkes" (prizes and gift certificates) for EVERY finisher in
the run.
We will also have a nice post-race "nosh" (picnic), including Honest Tea,
And of course, a "schainer" (beautiful) t-shirt
designed by our award-winning artist Mimi Ginsberg.
You can print out a mail-in entry form at
http://www.arfax.org/entry.html
or
http://racepacket.com/races/may00/mitzvah.htm
You can also register on-line via secure server at
https://vaweb01.secure.capu.net/racepack/mitzvah.html
Before, during, and after the race, the Sunday School Committee
will conduct the largest Jewish book fair ever held in Northern Virginia.
Wherefore is this book fair is different from all others?
This book fair is different because more than 600 titles of Jewish books and
tapes
for both adults and children will be available,
many for the first time in the Washington DC area.
Several artists and authors of Jewish books will be at the book sale and
may be available to sign their works.
It will be a cash and carry event.
-- Hope you can come!
