Ottey, Christie and Sotomayor suspended !!!

As of February 14, 2000, Merlene Ottey, Linford Christie, Javier
Sotomayor, Douglas Walker, Gary Cadogan, Andre Luiz Ramos and Itai Margalit are
suspended from competitions, ruled the IAAF this weekend, and they will stay
suspended until the end of their arbitration hearings.

New date for IAAF GP Final

The IAAF received a request from the Organizing Committee of the Grand
Prix Final in Doha, Qatar, which was planned to take place on October 4, 2000,
to change the date of the competition to the October 5.

Nandrolone scandal No.4

After drug scandals in British athletics, produced by the likes of Linford
Christie, Dougie Walker and Gary Cadogan, another athlete tested positive for
the banned anabolic steroid nandrolone. Mark Richardson, Britain's biggest hope
of winning a medal in the 400m in Sydney, may miss the Olympic Games if the IAAF
finds him guilty of the usage of this controversial substance.

Double victory for Melinda Gainsford - Taylor

The Optus Grand Prix Series continued on Friday in Brisbane, Australia and
to the delight of the home crowd, the main attraction was Aussie sprint star
Melinda Gainsford - Taylor who produced two very impressive winning results,
running 11.37s for 100m and 22.59s over 200m. Amongst other results we can not
afford to not mention the women's pole vault in which Stacey Dragila cleared
4.55m to beat Australian vaulters Emma George and Tatiana Grigorieva. In the
men's competition a easy victory for Patrick Dwyer over 400m with 45.50s and a
very impressive long jump competition with Peter Burge landing at 8.08m.

Kosgei wins Tokyo 2000 marathon

After a fantastic duel, Kenyan marathon star Jophet Kosgei took victory in
the Tokyo 2000 marathon with a time of 2 hours 7 minutes and 15 seconds, only 5s
faster than second place finisher Lee Bong-Ju from Korea and almost a minute
clear of third place finisher Alberto Juzdado.

Cardenas breaks 46s barrier

The Athina 2000 IAAF meeting in Athens, Greece, produced 5 new world
leading marks for the 2000 indoor season. Anier Garcia won the 60m hurdles in
7.37s, Ivan Pedroso cleared 8.40m in the men's long jump and Alejandro Cardenas
crossed the finish line of the 400m in a time of 45.93s. In the women's
competition world best for 2000 were achieved by triple jumper Tatyana Lebedeva
and Bahamian sprinter Sevatheda Fynes over the 60m dash with a time of 7.03s.

On April 30, 2000 the The Host City
Marathon will be held on the Sydney 2000 Olympic marathon course. This
will be the only race that will take place on this course before the Olympics
and it will incorporate both the Australian Marathon Championship and the final
selection race for the Australian Olympic team. The entries close on February
29, 2000 and the entry forms may be obtained by email dave_cundy@... or

Ireland's oldest international race the 32nd Ras na hEireann 2000 cross
country race will take place on March 26th, 2000 in Dunleer County Louth,
