DUTCH INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS 12/02/2000

The Dutch held their championships in the beautiful city of Ghent.
Ghent, you now think, isn't that Belgium? Indeed, it is (for some of you
on the other side of the ocean: even in the European Union, The
Netherlands is still another country than Belgium).
The one indoor accommodation we Dutch had, Houtrust Sport in The Hague,
was closed last fall because the roof was coming down. There are no
plans for repair (too expensive) and no real plans to build another
track somewhere else. Apparently, there wasn't even money to buy the old
Ghent track (the Belgians build a brand new track where the European
Championships will be held next weekend).
Anyway. Both senior and junior championships (usually in two weekends)
were combined in one day, saturday february 12. Several Belgians, a
Israeli and a British athlete were allowed to compete as guests.
