I do not know the conversion factors derived at by others but this is
the best I could make. These factors are only valid for distances
given, for both shorter and longer distances they are wrong. These
factors are based on todays two best world records in this range,
that are Guerrouj's 1500m and Gebrselasi's 10000. Strictly these
factors are for men, but the womens world records give factors
differing only in the fourth decimal - that is, when the strongest
women records are seen as equally doped... From these factors you can
calculate the difference two mile / 3 kilometer as 1.0786 or 1.0787.
The number of decimals in the table below of course is ridiculous,
round them as you please. You can also multiplicate the times below
with 206 (the number of seconds of Guerrouj's record) to find equally
good record times on other distances - but only when you believe in
the method I've used.
