Hello,
Thanks, Jeff and Mike, for introducing yourselves. Stay tuned for
training diary #15 and if anyone feels like posting a writeup of
their training experience, please feel free. Meanwhile, if the other
6 lurkers, er, members, want to introduce themselves, here is a
template to help:
First name, nick or handle:
Geographic location:
How did you learn about Systema:
If you take classes, where do you currently train:
How long have you been a Systema-ist:
Previous MA background, if any:
But I understand that some people value the privacy so if you don't
want to come forth, that's fine. Meanwhile I hope we can all use this
group to get assistance and suggestions from each other. For example,
I can tell you one of my big hurdles is that I tend to stop before
the "work" is complete despite our instructor's suggestions "Roll,
roll, roll!" and "avoid, avoid, avoid!" and also "always be moving!".
In order to harness the attacker's force, you have to keep moving
until you have taken them down, disarmed, or otherwise accomplished
the goal of the drill, otherwise, all you have done is block their
force, which allows them to create new force. Systema foot-work is a
thing of beauty but tricky to get the hang of it. On a hardwood
floor, switching from cross-trainers to wrestling shoes helped me a
great deal. But I still have a tendency to stop or "choke up" during
drills. Advice and suggestions from anyone who has experienced
similar problems is most welcome.
