We road I guess 20km on Rottnest Island on hired
bikes (no cars on Rottnest) but not otherwise. We
hired a compervan and toured around the National
Parks in the SW. I would have liked to have taken
a bike and am thinking of getting a folding one
for such trips (not a folding tandem though).
