Well that's a repair that i haven't heard of before. We always carry a few cable ties but thats a new use for them.
I wouldn't be brave enough to ride on a bodgy tyre myself. I would've worked out a way to get a lift back to town rather than risk a front tyre problem.
We had a scare a week ago when riding home at night in the rain and i hadn't spotted that the was a ridge in the road between lanes due to the way the concrete slabs were laid. When I tried to change lanes the front wheel just slid along the ridge without turning. We stayed up but only just.
